Sharks loose forward Ryan “the Hoff” Kankowski has been elevated to the reserves bench for the Springboks’ second Tri-Nations test against New Zealand this weekend. Team mate and close friend Jannie du Plessis is less fortunate, having been ruled out of the match with a calf strain.
Kankowski’s inclusion comes as a result of an inevitable re-shuffle following Bakkies Botha’s most recent suspension (nine weeks for a head butt this time). Danie Rossouw moves up from the bench into the number 4 jersey and will win his 50th test cap in the process, the twentieth player to reach that milestone for South Africa. CJ van der Linde comes straight into the number 3 jersey for du Plessis, with BJ Botha again named on the bench.
The remainder of the squad is unchanged from the one that lost by 20 points in the first test and John Smit will need to spur his charges on to a far better performance in Wellington if they are to have any hope of retaining the Tri-Nations trophy.
