John Plumtree has announced an unchanged starting 15 and only one change to the 22 for the game against the Pumas on Friday night.

The backline that performed so well less than a week ago will get a good opportunity to score some more tries against the Pumas. The forwards will look to dominate and get good ball for a potent backline to kill off the opposition.

The much anticipated return of Willem Alberts is finally upon us as Ndlovu makes way for Alberts to warm the bench. He will surely get a good run to get back into the thick of things.

Stefan Terblanche will play his 100th Currie Cup game, 75 of which have been for the Sharks, when he captains the team on Friday night.

Sharks team:

15. Louis Ludik
14. JP Pietersen
13. Stefan Terblanche (Capt)
12. Patrick Lambie
11. Lwazi Mvovo
10. Steve Meyer
9. Charl McLeod
8. Keegan Daniel
7. Michael Rhodes
6. Jacques Botes
5. Alistair Hargreaves
4. Steven Sykes
3. Wiehahn Herbst
2. Craig Burden
1. Patric Cilliers

Replacements:
16. Kyle Cooper
17. Eugene van Staden
18. Ross Skeate
19. Willem Alberts
20. Rory Kockott
21. Monty Dumond
22. Andries Strauss

  • @Original Pierre (Comment 3) : The reasoning behind that is if you look at that team, there are no true centres there, so every other position is fully covered in case something goes wrong, bar centre.

And maybe Odwa didn’t make his fitness test?

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 4) : Yeah centre is still a problem for us. Wonder who would be ready first, Mapoe or Adi . . . And would Mapoe be a success as centre ?

  • @Original Pierre (Comment 5) : Mapoe will have to play centre if he wants any game time. He is behind JPP, Mvovo, Odwa and Vulindlo in the wing stakes. We have a real crises at centre and it will be in his best interest to make a claim for that position.

  • @wpw (Comment 12) : Yes, I would tend to agree. He is also, however, possibly better than Jacobs even though he has limited playing time at centre. Jacobs hardly set the world alight before he got injured in the super 14, in fact the Sharks won 7 of the 8 games after he was gone and not one while he played. He wasnt in his 2008 form, thats for sure. Also the sharks are covered at wing, they need a number 13, so Jacobs and Mapoe can fight it out with Stef warming the wheelchair, ahem, sorry, bench.

  • @Pablo Dinero (Comment 16) : Agreed Pablo.. If he wants to cement a place in the team, I can only really see it in the centre position.

I havent seen much of the chap, so I cant rally coment on his ability compared to Odwa or Mvovo..

Mapoe at 13 could be the answer, he will need a lot of game time there though – the kid has skills, I back him for starting 13.

He was not as good as in 2008 but he did play just fine.

Did he score a few NB tries as well as good passes which lead to tries??

  • Sheesh, rugby fans are fickle.

Not long ago the only player who could regularly break the line for the Sharks was one Adrian Jacobs.

Suddenly he is destined for the scrapheap based on a CC victory over a weakened Bulls side and about 3 appearances by Mapoe at 13.

I really hope Mapoe takes off at 13, but lets keep perspective on this. Surely seeing what effect the loss of experienced Boks has done against NZ should be warning enough?

  • There,s alot of rubbish being talked here .its between mapoe and J.P.P who the best wing at the sharks is or even the best right wing in South Africa and Adi Jacobs isn,t the most consistent player ,his a good plug for the 13 problem but sharks need long term solution at 13 .walter venters playing for the leopards lets see how good he is

If Adi prevails, so be it, if not put him out to pasture. May the best (or least bad) number 13 win.
