The Golden Lions’ Springbok flank, Wikus van Heerden, is not having it easy since his return from playing for the Saracens in England. He has broken the same arm in the same place, for a second time.
Rugby 365 reports that the original break was against the Cheetahs in Welkom. Saturday at Newlands was to be his return from injury in Currie Cup action. He started on the bench and came on early in the second half against Western Province.
The Golden Lions play Griquas in Kimberley this coming weekend and will now have to do so without Van Heerden who will be off for at least two months.
Jonothan Mokuena will take the luckless Van Heerden’s place on the bench – meaning the Lions are now without two of their most inspirational flankers, Van Heerden and Cobus Grobbelaar.
The latter, of course, had already been ruled out of the 2010 Currie Cup before the season even got underway.Tweet
