It was the biggest response from the authors and some bloggers to our team of the week that we have had. Some decisions were quite difficult, but here are your 15:

15. Jaco Taute (Lions)
– Close second Conrad Jantjes

14. Gio Aplon (WP)
– Close second Deon van Rensburg

13. Juan de Jongh (WP)
– Close second Stefan Dippenaar

(Only person did not have de Jongh at first choice 13)

12. Pat Lambie (Sharks)
– Close second Doppies la Grange

(It must be noted that Lambie was selected in every single team, and only one person, and I won’t mention any names here, selected Lambie at Fullback.)

11. Lwazi Mvovo (Sharks)
– Close second Michael Killian

(It can’t really be called close second, as Mvovo was selected in every single team, Killian was only mentioned as a second in a team submitted)

10. JL Potgieter (Bulls)
– Close second Elton Jantjes

9. Charl McLeod (Sharks)
– Close second Francois Hougaard

8. Ryan Kankowski (Sharks)
– Close second Ashley Johnson

(This was the closest of all positions with 5 teams selecting Kanko and 4 teams selecting Johnson)

7. Juan Smith (Cheetahs)
– Close second Dewald Potgieter

6. Pieter Louw (WP)
– Close second Willem Alberts

5. Anton van Zyl (WP)
– Close second Franco van der Merwe

4. Adriaan Fondse (WP)
– Close second Steven Sykes

3. Coenie Oosthuizen (Cheetahs)
– Close second Brock Harris

(As far as I know, Coenie is a loosehead, but 4 teams had him in at tighthead)

2. Tiaan Liebenberg (WP)
– Close second Craig Burden

1. Beast Mtawarira (Sharks)
– Close second Kevin Buys

Representaion:

WP – 6
Sharks – 5
Cheetahs – 2
Bulls – 1
Lions – 1

In our Try of the Week Category, we have a few nominations and we would like you to vote on which you think is the best.

1. Pat Lambie’s try started by Kankowski and Mvovo

2. Gio Aplon’s beauty to cut through the Pumas backline

3. Lion’s first try against the Bulls by Deon van Rensburg

4. Torsten van Jaarsveld’s for the Pumas after the brilliant break by Croy

  • I have already voted for 1, but 3 was also pretty bloody good, especially the way Taute joined the line.

Man, I’d love to have that kid in Durbs.

  • I didn’t watch the lions game and I loved Gio’s (but he actually stepped through a bunch of props) but Lambie’s was a beaut. Great interplay from Kanko and Mvovo.

As I have said, I didn’t watch alot of the game, all I know is I got home and the score was 13 – 6, so presume I didn’t miss much from the Sharks.

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 32) : Duane Vermeulen. I’m saying this after only REALLY watching one game the whole weekend, so other people might have more educated opinions. He drove everyone back in the tackle, had some great runs. And scared some players into dropping the high ball a few times, which I think lead to 2 tries.

  • @wpw (Comment 40) : haha, I’m a big Duane fan, but he’s not flashy, he doesn’t run like a back, he runs with all 118kg’s and goes forward almost every time, he tackles like a maniac, pushing players back time and time again. We need him with the Boks, they’ll get their go forward ball then.
What was the Bulls/Lions 8th men like?

Warren Whiteley scored a try and seems to be playing well at the moment but Duane is actually ina league of his own at the moment.

He has been performing consistently for quite a few seasons now and deserves a call up to the Boks.

I laugh when people keep punting Alberts for the Boks as he has only come onto the scene recently and still has to prove himself imho.
