Springbok and Free State utility back Meyer Bosman will play for the Sharks in 2011, it has been confirmed, while two other transfer targets have opted to stay put in Bloemfontein.
The highly-rated Ebersohn twins, centre Robert and flyhalf Sias, have long been on Rudolf Straueli’s shopping list, but both recently ended speculation about their immediate futures by confirming that they’ve signed with the Cheetahs for another year. Another young Cheetahs star, prop Coenie Oosthuizen, has extended his contract by the same period.
Bosman, comfortable at either flyhalf or inside centre, was a surprise inclusion in the Springbok tour squad for the European tour at the end of the 2005 season as a raw 20-year-old. He played in three tests on that tour before being cast into the international wilderness, only earning a recall to the Bok set up this year, when he sat on the bench against Wales earlier in the season.
Bosman will move to Durban at the conclusion of the current Currie Cup season, along with a former teammate in Bulls flyhalf Jacques-Louis Potgieter. With outside back Lionel Mapoe set to have his move to the Sharks ratified by the courts this week, the Durban side’s backline for the 2011 Super 15 could start to take on a very orange hue indeed.Tweet
