Jean Deysel’s Currie Cup season is over.
The big flanker tore his knee ligaments in the match against the Lions over the weekend. He is expected to be out for around 6 months. The injury was first expected to be his PCL in his knee, which would have ruled him out for 6-8 weeks, but the worst was confirmed on Tuesday night.
Deysel has just recovered from an injury and played his first game of the Currie Cup season off the bench against the Cheetahs 2 weeks ago. The injury occurred after a mere 5 minutes on the park, where he wrecked havoc with 2 steamrolling runs.
With Ryan Kankowski back in the Springbok setup, the likely loose forward trio going forward is Willem Alberts, Keegan Daniel and Jaques Botes.
In other news, Odwa Ndungane has to pass a fitness test to be able to replace JP Pieterson for this weekend’s gae against the Leopards. With Pieterson back with the Boks, Odwa will be really keen to take his place in the starting line up back.
We wish Jean Deysel all the best with the recovery process over the next few months.Tweet
