The “Haka” – Inside Out?

It was reported that the Tri-Nations game Saturday between The Boks and the All Blacks at FNB stadium, will be the biggest rugby-production in the history of SuperSport.

The “Spidercam”, which shows angles in slow movements taken at 125 frames per second, will be used for the first time in Southern Hemisphere rugby.

The camera was originally used in the World Cup Soccer tournament.

This,  almost 2 ton’s worth of equipment will take viewers “inside” the Haka and will show unique perspective of the scrum. (Sounds VERY interesting though!)

Just shows you what SuperSport will get up to, to get people to watch the Bok clash instead of the Sharks / Wp game!

What time is kickoff anyway.. I was surprised to see that the Sharks game only gets under way at 7pm?! That makes for a very late night..

  • I have seen the Spider-cam – very cool thing – but with soccer the ball doesn’t really leave the ground, I know the chances are slim, but could we see technology interfering with the match by getting in the way?

    just me thinking…

  • Is anyone going to the game?
Cause they’re also going to try for a world record for waving the most flags at one time in a stadium, so if you are, take you SA flag. They’re also going to do one of those massive 360 pano’s, you may want to dress up a little ;)

  • @Mole (Comment 4) : They used cabled cameras in the 07 RWC. The only difference is that those didn’t have the ability to move around the whole field. They were strung up on a single cable and if I’m not mistaken were fixed above the middle of the field.

  • @klempie (Comment 11) : Yeah, remember that – awesome angles, esp of Steyns place kick in the final… The one they are using is straight from the SWC, and can come down to about 1m above the players heads.

  • Good to see JdV and De Jongh starting in the centres.

Personally I would have started with Danie, be it at 4 or 8 – Spies hasnt been at his best…

But with Wynand not playing Im a happy man…

  • I still think Joe Pietersen made a huge mistake, he would have been a shoe in for the fullback position.
