Sharks loose forwards Justin Downey and Luvo Lusaseni have both been loaned to Griquas for the remainder of the 2010 Currie Cup season.
Despite playing starring roles for the Sharks XV in this year’s Vodacom Cup, neither player has had the opportunity to enjoy any game time for the Sharks in this year’s Currie Cup as a result of the abundance of loose forwards in the squad, including players in the form of their lives in Keegan Daniel and Willem Alberts.
Griquas have suffered a number of injuries which have seriously stretched their loose forward depth and the pair of young Sharks should hopefully strengthen Dawie Theron’s side considerably, while at the same time allowing the players to develop further by playing regular Currie Cup rugby, rather than continuing to represent College Rovers on the Durban club scene.
Sharksworld has learned that Downey will be on his way to Kimberley on Monday, while Lusaseni has already been training with them since last week. It’s not clear at this stage whether the pair will be allowed to play for Griquas against the Sharks this weekend, but they should certainly come into the selection frame for the game after that. We’d obviously like to wish both guys nothing but the best and hope that the move works out to their benefit. Well done to the Sharks for coming up with a win-win solution here as well.Tweet
