Former Maties centre Jean Stemmet has been released by the Sharks and will be available to represent Griquas for the remainder of the 2010 Currie Cup season.
Stemmet, who was the top try-scorer in the 2009 Varisty Cup in the maroon number 13 jersey has had limited opportunities to impress since moving to Durban at the beginning of the season. A stalwart in the Sharks XV side, he has been deemed surplus to requirements thus far in the Currie Cup and has instead played a key role in helping his College Rovers side win the league, as well as progress to the final of the Murray Cup.
Stemmet will start training with his new teammates on Monday and along with fellow Sharks (and Rovers) squad members Justin Downey and Luvo Lusaseni, should be available for selection against the Cheetahs this weekend. We’d like to wish the very best of luck to all three of them and hope they can help Griquas secure a place in the Currie Cup semi-finals.

Good luck boys.. Go show them what you can do!!
Can’t wait to see you in the Black nd White again!
Game time in the Currie Cup, who would say no to that?
How many of the other unions have stepped up to assist the Griqua’s?? Nicely played Sharks!!
I really commend the Sharks on this. Fantastic for these players to get game time in the CC. I hope other unions follow suit.
Think Maku, Chilli and Gary B at the Bulls in next years S15. Loaning out ‘excess’ players prolongs there lifespan at a Union.
Rob any news on Mapoe?
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 5) :
I read that he is training with the Sharks.. surely that cant be right?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 6) : Bizarre.. Clearly he has seen the light and realised Bloem is a backwater
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 6) : Last I heard he had refused to go back to Bloem, said the trust had been broken and that if they wouldn’t release him to play for the Sharks he would rather accept an offer for him to play in Oz! Straeuli and PDiv were going to talk but nothing since this?
