Sharksworld LIVE just keeps getting… longer

Welcome to the third episode of Sharksworld LIVE!

So here’s the idea – a bunch of us get together once a week on a Skype conference call, talk nonsense about rugby for a while and record the result. Then, we upload it to let everybody listen to our inane ramblings and tell us how terrible we all sound and how we don’t know what we’re talking about. Or something like that!

This week, we decided to split the recording in half, to make the download file size smaller. That was the idea, anyway. The reality is, we ended up with two parts, each of which was 45 minutes or more long. Sorry, dear listeners, but we’ll definitely get better at staying sort and to the point! Remember to give us any and all feedback, but remember that this is still very much a developing concept that is bound to get better over time, despite some teething problems,

Thanks a stack to KSA Shark, war1, Richard Ferguson, Big Fish, Hertford Highlander and Morne for taking part this week.

Have a listen to Part 1 here.

Part 2 can be found here.

Ask your readers to pick two featured matches you want to discuss pre-game time, and one general topic.

  • before the session e-mail the guys the points that need discussing and they must think of everything they want to say in a minute. and if they waffle rob hands over to the next. a minute might be to long for certain issues. most people watched the games so you don’t need a full synopsis of the game. just highlights that made a difference.

  • Maybe you should look into editing the podcast…you guys agree with each other to much, which means you sometimes repeat what the fist guy said, but just in your own words, I specifically refer to the Ausie center topic.

Klempie is right if you have a lot of speakers, you’re always going to have longer podcasts, but since this is a blog podcast I think it should feel like you’re in a verbal blog, which it won’t if you’re only 3 guys.

Try to limit comments to a certain length, have a timer on a speaker. Give everyone a chance to give their opinion.

Have more specific topics worked out before hand. Instead of saying we’re talking about the Bok game, and then ending up with the interesting topic at the end, try to figure out where the conversation will go anyway and start there, or about there.

BTW I don’t mind that it’s long, I’ve listened to all of them and have found it very interesting.

  • Also, regular discussion points should have a framework. This way you won’t repeat things week after week. When you discuss CC games you should have a few regular specific topic points. It could make it boring, but if you go over the normal points quickly you’ll have a little more time for any interesting points that came up during the week. Also then as mentioned you could break the podcast up into sections and people will have a favorite section to look forward to.

It’s like this blog, I know Rob will write player ratings, sharks games by the numbers… and I look forward to those articles, I think the podcast should have a little more of that.

Leave certain discussion points for the next time, so if someone starts going towards a certain topic you can just quickly stop them and say, we’re going to discuss that next week…so plan ahead a little more, because there’s only so many things you can discuss and we don’t want you to deplete all interesting conversation by the next podcast….I mean, if we would like this to be a more permanent thing, than just a couple of podcasts???

  • This is from the afrihost web site, I download quiet a bit and have not yet been throttled, I think these would be there guidelines, in other words if you stay under that you will definitely not be throttled, if you go way over then you will be throttled.

For a 384 kbps line if you move less than about 7 GBs a month it makes sense to stay on Capped.
For a 512 kbps line if you move less than about 11 GBs a month it makes sense to stay on Capped.
For a 4096 kbps line if you move less than about 17 GBs a month it makes sense to stay on Capped.
