Welcome to the team of the week following Round 8 of the Currie Cup, where we saw a few surprising results come through.
There are a few newcomers to the team this week, with first time appearances from Mike Rhodes from the Sharks and Kobus Caldo from the Cheetahs. Well done guys, hope to see more of both of you in the future.
Even though the Sharks game was not televised, we had a few teams include Sharks players based on either watching the game or from the highlights we managed to see thanks to Letgo. Some of you might see this as being unfair, but after looking at the Rugby365 Team of the Week which also included Sharks players, I decided to include players from games that were not televised. At the end of the day, we put up this team for you folk to have a look at and debate it, so please go right ahead.
As you all can see, we now have a sponsor for the Team of the Week, and with a sponsor comes a prize. The competition we will be running will work as follows; at the end of the Currie Cup anybody can enter their team of the Currie Cup. The person that gets their team spot on with the team we select, wins a couple cases of Windhoek Lager.

Still 9 sharks, we are top of the log by 7 points so…
Very nice!
I have to say that here at SW we are a little biased in favour of our Sharks players
Awesome work – thanks Rich. And thanks also to Windhoek. Man, I miss that beer!
@robdylan (Comment 3) : Hands off! It’s mine!
i would give sarel pretorius charls spot. charl was good, but sarel played 80 minutes behind a team getting thumped and still kept them in the game. charl was made to look good playing 60 minutes with the form forward pack in front of him.
I like Windhoek stukkend…can I have mine in the Draught Dumpies please?
Not one Puma, that can’t be right.
I also had Sarel in my team of the week, but the player with the most votes in a position takes the spot, I can’t favour my own..
Windhoek is a lekker beer, its definitely going to be a motivating factor for people to start taking notice..
Submit those teams people, the more we get, the better you are represented!
@molly (Comment 7) : I agree but the players are unfamiliar to me and I couldn’t really remember which ones played well
Puma players got individual votes Molly..
Nobody really made it into more than one team..
did no one watch the Puma/Bull game?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 10) : I wish I had watched the Puma’s game, if I remember correctly they were quite well represented in the Rygby365 team, weren’t they?
@molly (Comment 11) : no i was at the tank.
@molly (Comment 12) : molly has just been designated david and goliath matches player selector.
no watching the good games molly only the small unions against the powerhouses.
although this weeken the matchups couldn’t be fairer.
I see Helium Pete is in the news for all the wrong reasons again.
The Pumas had 2 players in the Rugby365 Team of the Week..
It wasn’t an easy week to watch all the games since 3 were played at the same time. It was difficult to really have a fair contest end even more difficult on Sharksworld.
Not one of the two players in the Rugby365 team got a vote by the teams submitted..
And I do take into consideration the Rugby365 team as an unbiased third party team..
@robdylan (Comment 3) : I likes me a Windhoek, nice one Rich
@molly (Comment 11) : I had 3 Pumas in my team.And the Pumas 7, who is actually a hooker as my motm.
@wpw (Comment 20) : @wpw (Comment 21) :
@klempie (Comment 22) :
I see someone deleted my comments!!
sharks beat pumas and bulls so their players are better than pumas or bulls by default.
@try time (Comment 13) : Ja, I was at Newlands as well.
@wpw (Comment 23) : I expect your article to follow them shortly.
Rob is afoot.
@wpw (Comment 23) : jeez dude. Whose flipping side are you on?
@klempie (Comment 26) : hehehe. I was right!
@robdylan (Comment 27) : Must say, I was surprised to see that article posted by Helium Pete’s BIGGEST fan!
@klempie (Comment 28) : don’t give yourself too many brownie points for spotting that one, Einstein.
You’d think people that have been with us for 2.5 years would have learned the editorial policy by now
@klempie (Comment 26) :
@robdylan (Comment 30) : Chillaaaaax brother! Wasn’t me that put it up!
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 31) :
@klempie (Comment 32) : no – the real culprit has gone into hiding rather than face my wrath…
I’d like to congratulate Rob and Sharksworld on their sponsorship from Windhoek and tell everyone to keep their eyes peeled for some exciting creative from Windhoek on this site. watch this space.
@CapeShark (Comment 35) : you working on it?
@robdylan (Comment 36) : It’s a small world, dude.
@robdylan (Comment 34) :
@robdylan (Comment 3) :
I agree with everything you’ve said there.
Excellent stuff Richard. you may not say much on SW live but you certainly get things done.
@CapeShark (Comment 35) : Got it, the one with the best Bulls chirp wins a case?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 39) : I actually had a few Windhoeks at the Spur at the O2…
@KSA
This sponsorship has very little to do with me..
I might have spawned the Team of the Week idea, but more than that I cannot take any credit for..
And regarding sharksworld live, as I’ve told Rob, I’m just taking it all in at the moment, I can’t even read my own summary without messing it up!!
You guys are so deprived of good beer outside the republic!!
Feel kinda sorry for you okes, why don’t we start importing it to the UK and make some pounds!!
