Louis Koen, remember him? The scrumcap-wearing flyhalf who played 15 tests for the Boks a few years ago. The same Louis Koen who has been coaching in Boland for two seasons.
Well, he is back on the playing field again 7 seasons after retiring. The 35 year old will make his debut for Boland against the Valke as coach Loffie Eloff desperately tries to salvage a poor Currie Cup season for a team hoping to get straight back into the Premier division.
It will be interesting to see how the 35 year old goes, but word is that he has been training well and kicking well over the last week. Interesting stuff indeed!

Does anyone want the first division 22 man squads for this weekend?
@war1 (Comment 1) :
Are you gunning for some extra points there War?
Did they actually let him out of the old age home???
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) :
Guess who is making serious points at the mo!!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) : I found it interesting, I’m going to put the rest of the teams up, it’s amazing how many players I recognise here who used to be big names
@Ice (Comment 4) :
I bet you are Ice.. How are you going to split them? Daily or two a week?
@Ice (Comment 3) : from the coaches bench
@war1 (Comment 6) :
Put it up.. Lets have a look at it.. it could make for interesting reading and some good debate..
The Valke won for the first time in 26 games the other day
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 7) :
I think Spur of the moments – whats your suggestion? I have quite a few already!
Well we’ve got Andre P. So this is not that funny
@Ice (Comment 11) :
If you do it too often it will be too much..
Do it as you see fit.. keep it at intervals so that nobody knows when or where.. What do you think?
@SharksRTB (Comment 12) :
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 13) :
Stem..
@Ice (Comment 15) :
Bly ek kon help..
Seems there are a few players missing from the SWD team, will update when I find them
@war1 (Comment 17) :
They dont have a prop.. hehe!!
Funny shit..
@war1 (Comment 17) : They may actually be pulling their team out of the competition
Where is Kennedy Tsimba?
I always rated that guy..
Who can count all the former Sharks players? Boland for starters will give quite a few
@SharksRTB (Comment 12) :
Add Stefan Oupa Terreblanche!!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 20) : think he just got old
5.Windpomp van Rooyen
What a great dutchman name!!!
@war1 (Comment 21) :
Nikoli
Immelman
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 19) : nah, it was just when I added numbers to the team that I realised that their 1 and 22 were missing, my source just needs to see their error, do you know how difficult it is to track down a swd eagles team?!
@wpw (Comment 25) : Micklewood, Kock
Solly Tyibilika sgould have stayed at the Sharks..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 18) :
They can always use WES – sure its not too far a drive!
Solly Tyibilika
Jacques Potgieter
@Ice (Comment 29) :
Luister hier vroumens!!
Gaan was skottelgoed of iets en los die rugby gesels vir die manne!!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 28) : I wonder if we’ll ever know the truth with him
Nolan Clark
@wpw (Comment 31) :
My man het dit klaar gedoen!
@Ice (Comment 34) :
@Ice (Comment 34) : Then he’s not a man, a real man would have gone out and bought a dishwasher
Whose fault is it when your wife gives you grief while you`re sitting on the couch to watch some rugby? Your own, you should`ve made her chain shorter so she couldn`t get out of the kitchen . . .
@Original Log Leader (Comment 37) : Only problem with the shorter chain is how does she manage to bring you beer, biltong etc, and how is she going to provide the half time entertainment?
@Greg (Comment 36) :
He packed it and switched it on and unpacked it = dishes in my house!
@Ice (Comment 39) : There’s another way????
@Greg (Comment 38) :
@Greg (Comment 40) :
I dunno…you mentioned something about going out and buying a dishwasher – then obviously you know sumthing I dont!
Just seeing JW Jonker in there has made me think about the Cheetahs (it was a kak feeling) What has happened to Mapoe?
@Ice (Comment 42) : Well before I had a dishwasher I used to buy paper plates and just throw them away
@Greg (Comment 44) :
EEUUUUHHH!! Paperplates?? That is SO Lions supporter!
@Ice (Comment 45) : Shop ran out of solid gold plates
@Greg (Comment 46) :
Even more EEEEUUUUHHH!!! Are you from Brakpan by any chance??
Chris Micklewood at 15 for Boland. So that’s where he is. The Westville old boy was SA Schools fullback and captain before he disappeared off the rugby radar. Was wondering where on earth he went. Maybe he’s studying at Stellies or something.
@Ice (Comment 47) : Why, is there something wrong with Brakpan?
@Greg (Comment 49) :
Uhmmmm – noooooo…Only one small thing, no class, but hey, otherthan that….
@Greg (Comment 49) :
if you think there isn’t then most of us will be to scared to point out your mistake.
We don’t want to spend a few months in an oxygen tent.
Here’s my list of players that (to my knowledge) at least saw some Super 12/14 game time:
Louis Koen, Bolla Conradie, Braam Immelman, Hottie Louw, Hilton Lobberts, Nikolai Blignaut, JW Jonker, Barry Goodes, Tiger Mangweni, De Wet Barry, Mzwandile Stick, Solly Tyibilika, Chumani Booi, Bevin Fortuin
As far as I know: Koen, Conradie, Hottie Louw, De Wet Barry, Solly and Fortuin were all springboks at some point. It’s interesting to witness how some players just seem to slip off the radar. Are they too old or were they never really that good anyway?
@war1 (Comment 26) : But seriously,they are considering pulling out of the comp,they are bankrot
@CapeShark (Comment 52) :
Koen, Conradie and Barry certainly deserved their Bok spots AT the time.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 20) :
Good question, he was still up there with the big boys when he suddenly vanished. I think his biggest problem was that he had played for Zim so could never play for the Boks.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 54) : Of course the time you are referring to is the infamous Dolph Straueli era where he awarded something like 55 players in one year with green blazers. It was also a strange time because as limited as Louis Koen was, there really wasn’t a flyhalf better than him around.
@CapeShark (Comment 56) :
And he had a boot of note on him.
Thabang Molefe was also a very decent inside centre.Chumani Booi used to play for the Stormers
The Boland 22. Cornelius? Isn’t he the guy the Sharks bought some time back and never played a game for us?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 59) : Im just trying to figure out who he is myself, thought he was a WP player sent to get game time at Boland.Doesn’t seem to be working out for him.
urm shows how much I know. I thought Louis Skoen was the Bulls kicking coach or something . ..
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 60) : The same for old pencil head – scrummie who got sent to Boland. I can’t remember his name. Delport I think?? He has completely fallen off the grid.
@Original Log Leader (Comment 61) :
No that is FValfofka KCnioleltizeers I believe, ironically not a renowned kicker himself as I recall.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 60) :
Here you go.
http://www.sharksworld.co.za/2008/09/01/sharks-snap-up-minnow-pair/
We signed him the same time we signed Len Olivier, or so it seems anyway, but he never arrived it seems.
KSA Shark
Surely you meant Vlok Cilliers??
@wpw (Comment 65) :
That’s what I said.
Dawid De Villiers, JW Jonker, Molefe playing for Griffons.
Are WP using Boland to keep their guys match fit?
Are OFS using Griffons to keep their guys match fit?
We seem brighter than these guys we use a premier division side foir that.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 63) :
LMAO!
Chris Mickelwood got let go by the Newcastle Falcons I see hmmm he was a good player
@Ice (Comment 29) : @wpw (Comment 31) :
I love you guys…. <3
@Greg (Comment 36) : No no. a real man would have gone out and married a dishwasher….
@Greg (Comment 44) : Now that’s what real men do!
@klempie (Comment 72) :
