ABSA Currie Cup: Lions (46) v Western Province (28) F/T

A closely contested game to kick the weekend off?

Western Province have suffered a small dip in form over the last two weeks while their opposition have achieved a very timely turnaround in their results and will fancy their chances of achieveing a big five scalp.

I think beating Western Province just yet will be a bridge to far for the Lions during this rebuilding phase.

WPW…have you seen much of Conrad Hoffman? I thought he was MASSIVELY over rated when he played for SA U19′s…but only saw him twice and haven’t seen much of him since then. I know he’s fairly highly rated by his various coaches but I don’t know if he just had poor days when I watched him?

  • @Villie (Comment 8) :

I watched him closely in his debut CC season and he was sublime.

I think he was messed around by the WP ‘brainstrust’ who tried to convert him to flyhalf but that wasn’t as successful as they had hoped.

He was however one of the start players during the Varsity Cup where he played 9 and 10 for Maties.

I think when he is on top of his game he will definitely start at 9 for the Sharks. All he needs is game time!!!

  • @wpw (Comment 181) : I tell you, I”m not inspired by the injuries. Loosies gave away way too many penalties. De Waal & Duvenhage were terrible… Sadly I thought Deon Fourie was average, cause I really like him, maybe he’s just an impact player.

We have a gem in Jantjies ! Please hang onto him ..pretty please!

And lets not get ahead of ourselves toutin he likes of Lambie and said Jantjies for a ‘Gran Slam’ tour..its huge and could break em easasily ..give them a super15 season before the step up..its the right thing to do.

    Winners are Grinners !

I don’t know HOW I actually view that.

A few thoughts going through my head.
1)WP had good defence at the beginning of the season, but you can only tackle and tackle and tackle for so long and the tackles are now starting to slip.

    2) Surely the replacements should be fresh and therefore the tackling should still be good and solid.

Everyone is saying there have been a few injuries, I believe that to be correct. It would therefore be very interesting to see WHO missed the tackles, the new boys or the tired boys?

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 215) : Ja, I agree, but for me the backline just isn’t performing, we’ve pretty much got no one from the s14 playing in the CC. And with interruptions in the loosies and forward pack we’re struggling for continuity. Our structures/gameplan suffers when we need to change players in the first 20min.

Then I have 3 out of 3 so far this week…and if the Sharks win I should be in the top 20 in the Sharksworld SB…

If I don’t miss so many picks I might actually win on SB someday…
Like the soccer WC I missed 7 picks…and some simple ones like where there was a clear winner…

I was in the top 20 of the world before I missed two picks in 1 night and the dropped to 300 odd by just missing two picks…but it was a bad game to miss…not often you have a easy winner in soccer…
