Welcome to another instalment of Punter’s Picks of the Weekend.
Results from last week:
What a weekend it was, and we seem to be getting better at this punting thing!
We seem to be getting the farm betting right, with South Africa doing us proud and beating the Aussies by more than the required 5 points.
HH’s ITM bet of the weekend was a superbly thought out treble which came through for us, at odds of around 2/1. Well done and thank you HH, it was a good result.
The Soccer bet of the weekend had Arsenal to beat Blackburn, which they duly did and we had our 3rd winner for the weekend.
Unfortunately, Western Province let us down, thus losing our Currie Cup bet and with that the Hail Mary went out the window as well.
On to this weekend:
Bet the farm:
Sharks to beat the Bulls at Loftus – 8/10
Take a chance:
Lions to beat Western Province at home – 16/10
Tri Nations bet of the weekend:
South Africa to beat Australia by 10 points or more – 1/1
ITM bet of the weekend:
HH’s bet of the weekend in the ITM Cup this time around is a small treble:
Waikato to win
Wellington to win
Southland to win
That treble should get you about 2/1
Soccer bet of the Weekend:
Newcastle to beat Blackpool – 6/10
Currie Cup bet of the Weekend:
Cheetahs to beat Griquas by 5 points or more – 1/1
Hail Mary:
Hail Mary’s are not for the faint hearted, and these generally only come through once in a while. Here we go:
Springboks by 10 points or more
Sharks to win
Cheetahs by 5 points or more
Newcastle to win
Grand total – 10/1

I’ll give you much better odds than that on Newcastle to beat Blackpool this weekend
Game is on 11 Sept
Btw guys, remember my prediction that Newcastle would draw last week, against Wolves I think??
Well, what was the score??
I`ve got the Sharks and the bokke by more than 8 @ 2.44
Lets hope my multiple comes off this weekend.
Got the Lions to beat province at 1.9 as well. At home? Surely that`s good value hehehe
Still no soccer bets for me thanx.
@Greg (Comment 1) : Hope you guys comes through for me tonight!
@Original Log Leader (Comment 3) : You and me both!
@Original Log Leader (Comment 3) : Hope i lose my lions bet
@Greg (Comment 4) : Nothing personal
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 6) :
” In the jungle
the concrete jungle
the Lions Leads tonight” !!
@Original Log Leader (Comment 8) : DUDE
Did you find out if there is Fish Eagle in that bar yet??
Punter.
Please explain the Bet the Farm bet to the ignorant (me
)
Hopw can we make money off of 8/10 odds?
i don’t understand these things.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 9) : Bra loyalty is loyalty but when money enters the equation it changes everything. . .
@Ice (Comment 10) : Give me some time. This is CT you know . . .
@Original Log Leader (Comment 12) :
hey Claytie was checking the stock out in your bar, not me!!
@Ice (Comment 10) : Sadly not
@wpw (Comment 2) :
Well done WPW.. you called it!!
@KSA Shark © (Comment 11) :
8/10 means that you receive an 80% return.
So if you put R100 on them, you will win R80 plus your R100 back, meaning that you collect R180..
@KSA Shark © (Comment 11) : I think it means that for every R8 you bet you get R10 if you’re right…not that I’ve ever gambled
@Pokkel (Comment 17) :
That is what i would have thought but it seems @Richard Ferguson (Comment 16) : I am wrong.
Rich.
Are Odds the same as what Steve was explaining in the marshalls article? So if i understand correctly 8/10 is the same as 80c/R1,00 and is also the same as 0.80/R1
okay guys I’m out.
beach Braai this afternoon. WILL be back in time to comment on WP giving the Lions a hiding this evening.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 18) :
You have it spot on there KSA..
See the fraction as a percentage return..
ie 4/10 = 40% return meaning R140 won for every R100 bet..
If its 2/1 = 200% return meaning R300 won for every R100 bet..
@KSA Shark © (Comment 19) :
What’s the odds for the final? Would like to make a little bet
Waiting……
@Jarson (Comment 22) : sure;y it must be 50-50… dead even money?
Or maybe Sharks slightly behind due to home-ground advantage.
99/100 v 101/100
@robdylan (Comment 24) : I’m sure WP is the favourates so 101/100 then
I dont really understand what’s going on at Marshalls
