Welcome to the team of the week following Round 9 of the ABSA Currie Cup. It’s amazing how a team that only saw a few changes on a weekly basis, suddenly change so dramatic that a mere 2 players retained their spots.

Willem Alberts and Adriaan Strauss were the lucky two to make the cut, with an abundance of new players coming into contention. We welcome Jaco Taute back to fullback where he is in a straight battle with Hennie Daniller for fullback of the tournament so far. The rest of the backline is still very open, with new centres coming in week after week. Congrats to Elton Jantjes, making his second appearance after getting the clean sweep and being in every single submitted team, gets awarded the Windhoek Lager Player of the Weekend.

Amongst the forwards, we welcome Derick Minnie and Juandre Kruger as first timers. It’s good to see such a strong Lions contingent after the wonderful game they played over the weekend.

As you all can see, we now have a sponsor for the Team of the Week, and with a sponsor comes a prize. The competition we will be running will work as follows; at the end of the Currie Cup anybody can enter their team of the Currie Cup. The person that gets their team spot on with the team we select, wins a couple cases of Windhoek Lager. Thanks must go to Windhoek for their participation.

  • How about a player of the weekend feature added into this? The guy with most votes becomes the MVP.
