Ludik, Daniel back in starting lineup

John Plumtree has not hesitated to bring the previously injured duo of Louis Ludik and Keegan Daniel straight back into the Sharks starting lineup to face the Cheetahs in Durban on Saturday.

The team shows few changes to the outfit that narrowly pipped the Pumas last Friday, with Daniel replacing Jacques Botes at open side flank in the only change to the run-on pack. Botes moves down to the bench in place of the unlucky Skholiwe Ndlovu, who falls out of the 22. Michael Rhodes is retained as the lock replacement and completes the forward reserves together with the young duo of Kyle Cooper and Wiehahn Herbst.

There has been a fair bit of shuffling in the backs, with the outfit that performed so well up until Ludik’s injury now reunited. Ludik comes in at fullback, with Stefan Terblanche moving back to outside centre. Dries Strauss moves one place closer to the action, meaning a drop to the bench for last week’s 12, Riaan Swanepoel. Luzuko Vulindlu is the other squad member to drop out of the 22 this week.

Sharks v Cheetahs:

15.Louis Ludik 14.Odwa Ndungane 13.Stefan Terblanche (capt) 12.Andries Strauss 11.Lwazi Mvovo 10.Patrick Lambie 9.Charl McLeod 8.Ryan Kankowski 7.Willem Alberts 6.Keegan Daniel 5.Alistair Hargreaves 4.Steven Sykes 3.Eugene van Staden 2.Craig Burden 1.Patric Cilliers
Replacements 16. Kyle Cooper 17. Wiehahn Herbst 18. Michael Rhodes 19. Jacques Botes 20. Rory Kockott 21. Andre Pretorius 22. Riaan Swanepoel

  • @robdylan (Comment 2) : what is with the Sharks? other teams bracket injury concerns, we will just change the team come match time. A funny story from Loftus is that the stadium announcer was not aware of any team changes, he even got the Bulls team wrong, and when Monty was subbed off, it was announced as Ludik coming off

  • @VanWilder (Comment 3) : he was a better prospect a few years ago when he first started. I get the feeling he’s been mucked around a bit and it has affected his confidence. Only ever brought in as a last resort, sort of thing.

I’ve heard he’ll hang up his boots at the end of the season.

  • The one thing that sharks need to develop, if we ever want to win the Super 15 and stay on top of competitions, is a good center pairing. The last time the Sharks had a pairing worth mention, was when Barrit and Murray paired up in 2007. Our backline was quite amazing that year, and we were solid on defence.

  • Actually I’ve been thinking, what is with Lions players and injuries? Deysel spends as much team off the field as on. Mostert, who is he? Ludik been here since february and has played a few cc games. Pretorious-We all know his injury history, that is why the sharks don’t want to give him a contract.

Jacques Fourie-only sorted out his injury woes since moving to Poefters.
Jaco Pretorius-better since moving to the bulls.
Wikus van Heerden- Does well until returning to Jo’burg.
I don’t even want to look at the Lions teams.

Only problem is these fitter players are probably happier now with the turnaround that is happening in Joey’s so won’t be leaving any time soon. Even Waylon is looking good with decent inside centers giving him ball.
