Western Province coach Allister Coetzee, true to his word, has backed JD Moller to take on the Blue Bulls in a Currie Cup crunch match at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday.
In all, Coetzee has made two changes to the side that convincingly beat Griquas at Newlands last Friday.
Lock Adriaan Fondse returns to the starting line-up after being ‘rested’. He replaces De Kock Steenkamp, who reverts to the replacements’ bench.
Moller also makes a comeback to the starting XV in place of the injured Wicus Blaauw. Blaauw tore a hamstring against Griquas and will be out for the remainder of the season. JC Kritzinger is the replacement prop.
Another change on the bench sees the return of Lionel Cronjé in place of fellow WP Under-21 flyhalf Gary van Aswegen and a fit-again Conrad Hoffmann re-appearing on the bench after dropping out at the 11th hour last weekend.
“Wicus [Blaauw] is out for the rest of the season, which is a bit of a blow for us,” Coetzee said. “But having said that JD [Moller] played really well for us.
“He’s been really accurate in the scrum, and with him, JC [Kritzinger] and Brokkie [Harris] there we have a strong squad.”
Springboks Bryan Habana, Ricky Januarie, Schalk Burger and Jaque Fourie will return to the Currie Cup squad next week.
