WP coach Allister Coetzee has named his squad to face the Sharks at Newlands on Saturday…

The WP loose trio welcomes back Shcalk Burger back into its ranks and the halfback pairing sees springbok Ricki Januarie force his way into the starting lineup instead of usual starter and vice captain Dewaldt Duvenage.

JD Moller starts at loosehead instead of the strong JC Kritzinger so it should be noted that Eugene van Staaden is probably licking his lips and laughing at this very moment.

The starting XV is as follows

  1. JD Moller
  2. Deon Fourie
  3. Brok Harris
  4. Adriaan Fondse
  5. Anton van Zyl
  6. Schalk Burger
  7. Francois Louw
  8. Duane Vermuelen
  9. Ricki Januarie
  10. Willem De Waal
  11. Brian Haban
  12. Juan De Jong
  13. Jacque Fourie
  14. Jean De Villiers
  15. Gio Aplon
  16.  Hanyani Shimange
  17.  JC Kritzinger
  18. 18 De Kock Steenkamp
  19.  Pieter Louw
  20. Dewaldt Duvenage
  21. Lionel Cronje
  22. Conrad Jantjes

  • Not a bad team at all.

One has to feel for Jantjes as he’s been very consistent since his return from injury!!

  • @wpw (Comment 5) : Dangerous backline but Alister gave the Sharks a life line by picking Ricki

  • @wpw (Comment 5) : I would rather have played Mossie on the wing and left the centres unchanged. Odwa to score when habana goes for the intercept.

  • To much changes in backline, players out of position, well they are desperate, maybe trying to confuse the Sharks what to expect, this might just haunt them…

  • @Pokkel (Comment 7) :

Thank goodness you’re not the WP coach!!
I would have dropped De Jongh to the bench. JDV and Mossie is a world class partnership!!

And Jantjes is solid at the back, Gio and Habs on the wings.
We needed Gio to oppose that lazy left wing of yours!!

  • @Pokkel (Comment 7) : mossie, better bet @ wing as shown in the b&i lions tour. Jdv sulks and looks inept @ wing. Mcleod take his chances against Ricky or Ricky to dominate charl as he did to Morgan Parra @ Newlands.

  • @Megatron (Comment 11) : Rory is starting not McLeod but agree about Mossie on the wing. In fact I would play 12. JDV 13 de Jongh and 11 Mossie in Habs place for the Boks

  • @Pokkel (Comment 13) : they’ve both too slow for wings – but out of the 2 Fourie seems stronger ie. better. plus has a hand -off.

  • I actually think the weak point in the WP line up is at the wings. Habana to go for the intercepts and JdV to be caught out of position at wing

  • @Pokkel (Comment 16) : maybe that’s why they put him on the wing to be in position

IMO a lot may hinge on what type of game Ricky will bring to the party. Maybe we should send Suzy with beer and doughnuts a night before

  • @Megatron (Comment 18) : Mvowo … or Habana in his younger years  would be my benchmarks.
Odwa is no speedster anymore by any stretch of imagination but can put the yards if needed.

  • @rekinek (Comment 21) : mossie is a far more astute defender, he knows how to cut-off the space for these explosive players, check how he shutdown the xplosive rene ranger in the s14!

In anycase, i bet mossie is faster than odwa & might pip lwazi in a foot race…

  • @Megatron (Comment 23) : talking about S14 – hopes he remembers not to run over Oupa’s path

Me thinks Mvowo’s bit faster but indoubtedly Fourie is more experienced and he is quite strong.
