  • Poor play Sharks. Very large and average decision to change the starting lineup.

Brainfart by Plum. First 60 mins they played completely different rugby to all season.

Repeat of last year Plum, hope you don’t make the same mistake in the semi against the Bulls.

  • @Villie (Comment 196) :     Sharks just took a complete battering. Again losing 2 of the last 3 going into the playoffs is not good, especially considering the only win in the last 3 was against the Leopards!! In fact in the last 5 games, the only sharks wins have come against the Leopards and Pumas, right?

Also a bit concerned by the penalty count by the Duplessis bros I made it 9 points they conceded Also the lose trio didn’t seem to work together we missed the linking of Daniel
Anyway well done WP Hope you make it to the final cos it would be great to beat you in Durban

  • Huge mistake to change things that didn´t need changing.

Pretorius was a disaster and added no value after a good first 5 minutes. The less said about Kockott the better, but McLeod wasn´t much better when he came on. The du Plessis bros ensured that we remain on the back foot for the entire first half by giving away penalty after penalty. No surprise, Lambie looked rusty at 15.

I thought Strauss was awesome in defense. Rhodes tried hard. Botes was his usual mongrel self. And that´s about it.

Hope we can take our winning momentum into the semis against the Bulls next week

Ricky had a decent game but I still think Hougaard is a better option for the Boks if FdP is out injured.

  • Egg all over my face after chirping all the province supporters on blogs.sports24!! Sharks seemed to lack structure and seemed a bit rusty in the first half. We should have stuck to our ball in hand apporoach, and should have made WP make the tackles. Not the other way around. Kockett didnt help much. Ludik played awesome! We missed Alberts and Keeegs. Mvovo was totally out of it and needs to start looking for work like Habana does ( who played well). Our Front Row seemed rusty. Luckily we scored the last try, so we got something in the end.

  • @rhineshark (Comment 229) : the one thing we have to be realistic about there were 8 changes to the side half the side We had no line between forwards and backs either. This was like our semi last year the Boks came back and messed it up This year it was in a nothing game so it didn’t matter better now than next week
So we have the Bulls and to beat them we need to hold the ball and the Boks step up to the mark
I wouldn’t start JPP let him come on last 20 So i would pick Ludik Oddone Jacobs Terblanche Mvovo Lambie Mcloed Kanko Alberts Hargreaves Sykes Daniel Jannie Bis and Beast
BTW have you noticed how many Sharks are playing for EP

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 305) : wilie -john mcbride`s 1974 british and irish lions team to sa ..willie -john was quoted as saying:if you play rugby in sa,then prepare yourself to get hit.so lets go out there and get our retaliation in first ..
in the 3rd test in pe ,one of the geat fullbacks in history ,jpr williams ,sprinted nearly 20 m to punch and knockout -yes,knockout -big moaner van heerden who was doing a lot of off the ball play ..
remember the docu made of the `97 lions in sa ? remember the scene in the change room before kick-off where keith wood and martin johnson were using some rather choice words to describe what they must do to the boks ?
rugby is a contact sport ,no getting around or away from that 9perhaps with more skillful players you can actually minimise the contact and really have players attack space) ..
im not condoning thuggery .. all im saying is ,when you play this game in sa “you`re going to get hit “(or have your eyes gouged !!!)..then its best to “get your retaliation in first” ..
have a look at the first half :there is a ruck where you can see that schalk is again attacking a player (rory kcockott`s) face with his paw and fingers ..rory can be heard clearly later shouting “what was that about?!!” some players never learn and the refs seem to not dare want to do something to them..hence we have the bulls play described as “typically hard and uncomprimising bullsrugby”,when in fact its just dirty ,dirty, dirty!!!! :x
how do you as a coach protect your players from these cheap shots?? because the refs in sa don`t
when this same type of play gets penalised against overseas teams and in test matches, everyone in sa suddenly wants to cry “FOUL!’..
my argument is that there are serial offenders when it comes to off the ball incidents in sa rugby ..the only way to protect your team and yourself is to as a team ensure you”get your retaliation in first “..bottom line is you either front-up and become the aggressor ,or you can go cower in the corner or under the goalposts and wait for the 80 min to end ..

intentional foul play can never be condoned and I will lose a huge amount of respect for the Sharks if they start resorting to such tactics just because “everybody else is doing it”. Right and wrong don’t suddenly change just because you’re playing in a rugby match, for goodness sake.

  • @robdylan (Comment 313) : in prep for the 2007 super 14 ,the sharks decided to bring in hennie bosman to assist the players in certain skills ..who is hennie bosman ?? hennie bosman is currently chairman of kyokushinkan africa.he has represented sa in traditional karate ,kickboxing and knockdown karate.currently holds 7th dan.hennie bosman was sent to karate school in bellville by his mom after he was having problems with bullies at school (started training karate at age 9 ). hennie won the world seniorkarate championship in osaka in 2001 .
why do i write this? well, obviously the sharks wanted to prepare themselves 100% for the super14 2007 ,and realised how important it is not to be dominated physically AND mentally ..you can not allow yourself to be bullied (the 2006 currie cup game in dbn vs bulls showed them that ,as did numerous other games) ..you need to have the skills and confidence to dominate and intimidate LEGALLY ..

The way I see it is if a team kicks a penalty to touch, they gain about 40 metres and get the ball back, so if a team does not gain 40 metres during the advantage, it should not be over. My opinion.

  • @Bergshark – Thuggery is never on in Rugby Union, never acceptable. You’re right it happens, and often we get no help from the referees, but intentionally injuring or trying to injure someone is not on. The disregard for the opposition’s well being so common in American Football is nothing to strive for.

    WHAT UTTER CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not letting yourself be Bullied by standing up to the opposition and tackling and cleaning at the rucks as well as you can has nothing to do with being a thug.

Part of my pre-match to the teams is ALWAYS. “We all know we can play this game damn hard and damn clean so let’s do that out there”

Playing hard and tackling hard doesn’t mean you are out to do damage to the other players.

tackling at the head with the shoulder, cleaning with the head at rucks and things like that DO.

You start off your post as if to insinuate that the guy was brought in to teach the Sharks self defence/boxing/martial arts and then say you need to have the skills and confidence to dominate and intimidate LEGALLY .. The rwest of your statements and that little bit are WORLDS apart.

To dominate and intimidate LEGALLY .. is very easy. but that is not what you have been suggesting at ALL in your previous posts.

Hennie bosman was brought in to teach sharks close-combat skills(not punches, headbutts, elbows, kicks).he had 2 teach them some grapple skills, etc.skills to ensure that once you make contact with your opp,you can dominate him and ,have him in a bodyposition that make youthe dominant(jujitsu, judo, etc).

  • Watched the game again today and to say that our forwards didn´t come to the party is a gross understatement. And it all started with Brok Harris dominating the Beast, which put our scrum under huge pressure. Our forwards were on the backfoot throughout, even when we had the ball, and man for man WP played us off the field before half time, when the game was effectively over.

We missed Daniel and Alberts BIG TIME. Beast, Jannie and Bissie left for the Bok conditioning programme in top form and came back shadows of their former (3 weeks ago?) selves.

With WP killing us up front it is still difficult to say whether the move of Lambie to 15 and Pretorius to 10 made any difference to the result. Even Mvovo looked very ordinary, especially having watched Basson shine against the Bulls in the first game in comparison.

  • @rhineshark (Comment 338) : I won`t rip into them yet cause I`m still too p . . off but it feels to me as if the bokke doesn`t really add value in the sharks setup the same way that they add value in the bulls setup.
When Bulls get their bokke back they are awesome but when we get ours back we lose.
Last year semi final, this year again. . .

But I`ll cool off tonight and be back with a nice open mind again tomorrow

  • Well what a game gee but i still think the sharks didn’t play like they always did but great WP deserves to win

Well it’s no against the BB :???:

I don’t know if we should be happy
it was the WP or the Bulls

So Bulls seem to be glad its them that are playing the best team on the log so far  ;-)

  • @Original Pierre (Comment 340) : Yes, I can’t understand it. Happens every friggin year that we seem to fall out of the bus when we should be getting some winning momentum going into the semis.

And every friggin year it happens when we get our Boks back. I’m getting that deja vu feeling…
