Name, nickname and where do you live?

What do you do for a living?
Customer Service and Admin Manager for a German Medical Firm in SA
Who do you support and why?
SHARKS ALL THE WAY, BABY! I have supported them ever since I got brains. They have the X-factor. Something you cannot pin-point. They disappoint you sometimes, but you can never hate them – you always see a positive erecting from something negative. They are The Sharks – to me it makes perfect sense just like that!
How/why did you become a Sharks supporter?
It was during the late eighties when I noticed a certain James Small making his debut in 1988 (I think). He was a looker and a naughty boy – everything a high school girl LOVED! But it was during the 1990 season when Natal won the Currie Cup in their centenary year, that the fuel ignited and I became a full on Sharks (Natal rugby) fan! I remember watching Craig Jameson with the trophy doing the “Victory” parade in Durban – and the feeling I got was “I wanna be part of THIS”. (Although I admittingly abstained from active supporting during a certain Kevin Putt’s reign)
What was your most memorable rugby moment (personally experienced or a team / player)
There’s quite a few!
- As a young girl being instructed to come into the house and watch the game…kitted out in our self-knitted jerseys – no play if rugga was on the telly – it was an order!
- Getting Rodney O’Donnels signature in a hotel in Bloemfontein when we went to watch the B&L tour in 1980 – I think the Boks won 26-18 or something..
- The 1995 WorlCup Final win will always be an extremely emotional experience for me
- Playing a rugby ghost (called WP!!) in our first year production at Varsity and doing a dive-pass on stage that left me with mean roasties! And the one game I played at varsity…at scrummy for my res.. I was seriously grassburnt, wind-uit en MOEG!!
What is your Dream team (old and current players)?
1 – Os du Randt
2 – John Smith / Bismarck

5- Mark Andrews
6 – Rob Louw

11 – Jonah Lomu – until James Stopped him solid!
12 – Francois Steyn
13 – Danie Gerber
14 – David Campese / James Small / Jaques Olivier
15 – Jouba / Monty / Stefan
It would be very unfair not to put Deysel in here somewhere as well!
Which co-bloggers opinion do you value the Most? Why?
Morne – he has an “openness” and a very huge passion – he should be involved in professional rugby. He has just such a natural feel for the game – it’s scary!
KSA Shark – he speaks “blonde” very well and has no problem to try and explain the laws to me.
Rob – he can be very diva-ish if you disagree with his views, but his passion is extraordinary!
What is the biggest sacrifice you’ve made to watch a rugby match?
Exactly 10 years ago my hubby and I drove over 800km on a Saturday morning to go and watch the CC final between WP and the Sharks in 2000 in Durbs (our first big date!)- just to watch them lose…and drove all the way back the next morning (with a moerse headache!) (So I will do all Sharks supporters a favour by not going to the final this year!)
Who is your least liked player?
JP Nel, JP Nel, JP Nel and JP Nel…oh and Jaque Fourie oh and add Tappit Hougaardt to that list now..
Who are your favourite 3 players of all time and why?
- Henry Honiball aka Lem – just his fearless tackles was incredible
- Gary Teichmann – who I regard as the best Captain we have ever had and who got the raw deal in my opinion
- Daniel Carter – IMO the best rugby player all-round of all time and in a very delicious package too!
If you could have a blogger deleted, who would it be and why?
Various people on various days for various reasons!
If you could select a coach (past or present) to be with Your team – who would it be?
Ian McIntosh and Jake White
How did you end up on SW, wasting valuable company time?
I was lured by Rob to lure people to the blog after Sharksrugby.co.za closed down the blog ( I was the Boss of the blog on there – and I SAY SO! Biets vannie Blog).. by the time they found out my age, I was settled in already!
Who is your favourite referee – current or old?
Online – KSA Shark
Older – for some reason I love Jonathan Kaplan
Younger – I am quite a fan of Jason Jaftha – despite the Lions game! J
Why Rugby ?
I grew up in a very passionate rugby-supporting house – my Dad who was also in his early twenties when we were born played rugby so basically my weekends was spent next to the rugby field…and under the tables, sleeping at the “rugby onthaal”! Those were the days, when “as hy le, dan trap jy!”. I remember my dad playing with a broken collarbone, as my mom tuned the ref he is fine to play! And, although a tiny guy, he had extreme “veerkrag” – he literally could dive over a scrum and score a try (I don’t know if that is allowed now) .. Spyker Hanekom…very appropriate for a scrummy?? LOL
I have always, since I can remember, been a supporter of the game, per se.
How do you react when your team loses?
If it’s a BIG one – I cry – snot en trane!!! And I pray…that it was a bad dream… not normally waking up from the nightmare…and I take loads of anti-deppressants! (Just kidding)
What is your most memorable rugby moment ever?
Meeting John Smit after waiting for an hour and a half in a que – also meeting John Smit and Richie McCaw for a brief second! My first time at Kings Park – I was in awe…speechless..
What is your favourite rugby ground?
Kingspark (ABSA) without a doubt!! (And Loftus – when we beat the Bulls!)
What is your earliest memory of a live game – provincial or test match?
The British and Irish Lions test match in Bloem in 1980
If you could play – what position would suite you best and why?
Defnitely Scrummie – I have the typical short shit built, Jack Russel attitude, and quite a good and quick pass – and I love to give people lip!
Do you have any pre-match routines (home or going to the game)?
Normally just getting the “refreshments” ready, sharks jersey, Sharks Cap, dress the kids and the husband in Sharks gear…trying to make sure the toys are all over the house to keep the kids busy! (And I do pray for a win..)
Who is your all-time favourite or best Captain? (locally or internationally) and why?
Sjoe…difficult one! It’s a tie between Gary Teichmann and John Smith – I think Johns’ stats speak for themselves – Gary, well Gary was just good – one did not need stats for him!
If your nic is not your real name – how did it originate?
Its basically just a short version of my name…and I like to think that I am a cool tannie too!
Explain ‘Sharkertainment’ – do the Sharks give you more than just rugby?Absolutely!
It is always great watching them play and even meeting them after a game. The ‘after party” at ABSA stadium is one that is known world-wide. The braai’s, comeraderie, chats with opposition fans. It’s a strange sense of excitement when I speak of the Sharks. They do have this “rebellious” name – although probably not in a bad sense – they are the boys the girls like to watch – afterall – they are “surfer dudes” playing an “Afrikaner” game and doing it pretty damn nasty!
Okay – enough of me…Tweet
