The South African Rugby Referees Association (SARRA) on Tuesday announced that International Test referee Craig Joubert will handle the 2010 Absa Currie Cup Premier Division final on Saturday 30 October 2010.
Joubert, who refereed the Vodacom Super 14 final between the Vodacom Bulls and the Vodacom Stormers at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto earlier this year, will be assisted by Cobus Wessels (AR1) and Christie du Preez (AR2). Marius Jonker was named as the reserve referee for the final.
Tiaan Jonker will take charge of the Absa Under-21 Championship decider while Rasta Rashivenga will referee the Absa Under-19 Championship final game. Pro Legoete will officiate the Absa Currie Cup First Division final featuring the SWD Eagles and the Eastern Province Kings in George on Friday (19h10). He will be assisted by Joey Salmans (AR1) and Reuben Rossouw (AR2).
Marius Jonker will take charge of the first Absa Currie Cup semi-final game in Durban where The Sharks host the Vodacom Blue Bulls at 14h30 while Mark Lawrence will referee the second semi-final of the Premier Division in Cape Town when the Vodacom Western Province host the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs at 17h00.
“The blokes have put up their hands and I am pleased that the appointments were done on merit,” said SARU’s National Referees Manager Andre Watson.
“We had a season were the young guns made their presence felt which augers well for the future. Jason Jaftha, Stuart Berry, Sindile Mayende, Jaco Peyper, Lourens van der Merwe and Joey Salmans of the National Panel proved that we can go into the future with confidence.
“Further down the list, promising referees such as Tiaan Jonker and Rasta Rashivenga are duly rewarded for an outstanding season.”

@rekinek (Comment 6) : Anything with a hint of blue…..
I’m not happy with jonker or Joubert really.
Both are to quick to pull cards. And I don’t mean they give cards to often I mean they give them to hastily.
We had a referees coach in Dbn who used to say to the card happy guys. Keep your cards under your heel inside your boot. That way by the time you have reached the card you have calmed down and realised that a stern talking to and a penalty are actually enough.
Joubert and Jonker need to adopt this approach.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 8) :
inside the boot thats a good one
