Let’s start off by saying a huge thank you to everyone who bought tickets in our raffle for a signed black and pink Sharks jersey over the course of the last week.
Thanks to your generous contributions, we’ve managed to raise a hefty R3 000 on this jersey alone, which together with the other funds we’ve raised through jersey auctions leaves us with around R13 000 to donate to CANSA – but more on that later. In total, 60 tickets were sold, but since a number of people bought more than one, there ended up being 21 people in the draw. Ticket numbers were allocated sequentially in the order in which I received payment and each of the entrants will already have received their ticket numbers via email.
So here’s what I did to pick a winner. I chose 5 random number generating web sites (which I found through Google) and asked each of them to give me a random number between 1 and 60. They duly obliged (what kind sites they are) and I then summed the resulting random numbers together, divided the total by 5 to get an average and then rounded the resulting number up or down to the closest integer. That number represents the winning ticket.
(The mathematicians among you will realise that I specifically chose 5 because that way I was guaranteed to end up with an average that didn’t end in .50, which is hard to round up or down fairly!)
So, here are the results from each of the sites I used.
http://www.random.org/ gave me 13
http://www.psychicscience.org/random.aspx gave me 33
http://www.mathgoodies.com/calculators/random_no_custom.html gave me 18
http://www.randomnumbergenerator.com/default.asp gave me 17
http://www.randomizer.org/form.htm gave me 6
Adding those numbers together, I got 87, which when divided by 5 gave me 17.4. That rounded down, reveals a winning ticket number of 17, which the record shows was sold to our good friend Pokkel! Congrats, mate! We look forward to getting you your jersey.
Bad luck to the rest of you who didn’t win, but remember this was all for a good cause and we’ve managed to raise a great deal of money for CANSA thanks to your generosity.Tweet
