Olivier not in Bok tour plans

Springbok and Blue Bulls centre Wynand Olivier will not be available for the Grand Slam Tour, which is due to kick off in just over two weeks’ time, following an injury.

Olivier will undergo surgery on his groin on Wednesday and will be out of action for 6 to 8 weeks. He will be forced to be off his feet and in bed for at least a month. The star midfielder for the Bulls will most likely still be available for the first Bulls game of the new SupeRugby tournament.

The injury was sustained during the Currie Cup and was treated so that the player could continue playing, but the decision was made to sort it out before the all important 2011 year, where Olivier will be battling it out with Jaque Fourie, Juan de Jongh and Jean de Villiers for position in the World Cup team to travel to New Zealand.

  • I have a problem with this whole bandwagon thing. Do the people that slate him actually WATCH him play or does he just get slated because of his hair and meisiekind nickname? Or is it because he plays for the Bulls? The guy is actually talented and while not in the class of JDV is unfairly criticised. It’s also a myth that he has defensive frailties. Watch his performances in the Super 14 and CC without blinkered glasses.

Certainly I would prefer a Bok midfield with JDV and Juan De Jongh…but he is the next best backup. He did have a poor season, I think it was last year….but the oke gets caned no matter how he performs.

The only reason I’m sticking up for him is that it irritates me when players get labeled for something and then this just gathers steam on the bandwagon with people jumping on it without actually watching the player themselves.

Same thing happened with John Smit a few years ago with the “he’s not the best hooker in SA” argument that was floating around and Ricky Januarie also suffers to a degree.

I do agree that he hasn’t done much for the Boks since then. But…he has to have a bit more about him than people give him credit for when he’s been picked by a succession of coaches who work very closely with him.

And that is it – just decent. I would like more in the Bok jersey, after he has been tried for a few seasons.

Thats the spirit ;-) , serious question have you watched any Currie Cup this season?

I agree with you on his pace , but as an inside center you don’t need out and out pace.

He’s strength is in taking on the defender and off-loading and imho is very good at it and in so doing creates the space for the player on he’s outside.

I guess I’m a liar then cause he kicks a hell of alot better than most center’s in SA.

By your tone I can see you feel strongly about Bosmans crappiness so we’ll just agree to disagree
