ABSA have summarily decided not to renew their sponsorship of the Sharks stadium.
The Sharks’ press release on the matter follows:
“The Sharks have announced that ABSA have terminated an 11 year association with them, having decided to drop the current sponsorship as stadium naming rights-holder which they have held since 2000.
The news comes ahead of Saturday’s final when The Sharks host Western Province at 5.30pm. From Kings Park to The Stadium Kings Park and finally to The Absa Stadium Durban, The Shark Tank is world-renowned for its unique brand of pre and post match entertainment – SharkErtainment – and the home of The Sharks.
The termination of the sponsorship means that The Sharks will now be in the hunt to find a new sponsor ahead of next year’s Super Rugby Tournament.”
Let’s hope that whichever sponsor comes on board now, we can go back to calling the place “Kings Park” and not have to endure the ever-changing whims of a sponsor when it comes to naming the home of Sharks rugby. Cheers, ABSA.Tweet
