Jean de Villiers fit to start

Centre Jean de Villiers will win his 64 cap for South Africa on Saturday after passing a late fitness test in Dublin on Friday morning

He takes his place in the centre alongside Zane Kirchner for the first test of the Springboks’ four-Test tour of Britain and Ireland.

Meanwhile uncapped backrower Willem Alberts has not recovered sufficiently from a calf strain and is replaced on the bench by his Sharks backrow team-mate and in the similarly uncapped Keegan Daniel.

Springbok coach Peter de Villiers welcomed the news of his namesake’s recovery: “We have been hard hit by injuries to our centres so to have Jean available is a major boost. He is an experienced international and is in charge of the backs on tour so it’s great to see him back on the field.

“We had made contingency plans, and had trained with them in mind all week, but with Jean’s knowledge of Ireland’s players – having played for Munster – it was important to have him available for this match.”

  • Perhaps better so Lambo can start off the bench and be eased in..

  • Good luck JDV. If you see Odrscol or Darcy coming in for the tackle, just take it. At least its not THE DRIES. So it wont hurt that much.

  • So Jean can play.

I really wanted this tour to be more about giving a few players chances to see how they can go.

Anyway, lets see if Habana and Spies and Morne Steyn, can prove me wrong. They haven’t been playing great and has not been the best in their position this year, but they don’t need to be, because they know they’ll get selected anyway.

I don’t think Krusty and Stegman was the best players he could have selected, but at least these two guys have played some decent rugby in the recent pass. Krusty has never had a drop in form, he just never had anything special to start with and Stegman was great in the S14 and got lucky to get selected when he haven’t played for 3 months or so, but at least I thought he deserved it when he played.

I’m more upset about players continually getting selected and then screwing up in the Green and Gold.

I’ll be watching those three specifically this weekend, because there is three other more deserving players that would love to be given the type of chances they are getting!

  • This sucks!

Why doesn`t he start with Lambie at 12 and JdV at 13? It`s the most obvious choice! Krusty . . . sigh

  • this is great news,

Maybe and i think a big maybe
its good to hv Lambie on the bench to start off with, its one thing to play junior SB but senior Boks is altogether a hard game, nt that Lambie and Mvovo can’t play snr games i think bring them in the 2nd half they hv to hv game time to get them ready for the WC 2011
