Uncapped Northampton flanker Tom Wood has been called into the England squad as injury cover for captain Lewis Moody.

The Rugby Football Union said Bath forward Moody has “general soreness” to his head.

Moody skippered England in Saturday’s 26-16 defeat against New Zealand at Twickenham. He was replaced by Leeds’ Hendre Fourie 13 minutes from time.

It was only Moody’s second appearance since suffering an eye injury while playing for Bath against Aviva Premiership rivals Gloucester on October 1.

England boss Martin Johnson is due to name his team tomorrow for next Saturday’s Twickenham appointment with Australia.

  • I think they will dismiss it !

    Could be interesting though, I don’t think they will want it to blow up into a full on story of events !

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 6) : And so they should… as far as I’m concerned the intent was as bad as Bakkies’… only he didn’t implement it as well.

    @McLovin (Comment 8) :

    I agree that he deserves a long ban and will probably get a decent one, BUT is it really necessary for the POMS to milk it, are they such a bunch of “lady boys”

  • @McLovin (Comment 10) : Yip, it seems Jimmy Cowen has a much stronger head than Moody… remember he got up smiling after Bakkies collided with him!

  • @Original Champion (Comment 23) : You never know. Only takes one injury or bad performance and he might be in.

    Poms not entirely happy with Tindall & Hape. Lack of creativity or something.
