Uncapped Northampton flanker Tom Wood has been called into the England squad as injury cover for captain Lewis Moody.
The Rugby Football Union said Bath forward Moody has “general soreness” to his head.
Moody skippered England in Saturday’s 26-16 defeat against New Zealand at Twickenham. He was replaced by Leeds’ Hendre Fourie 13 minutes from time.
It was only Moody’s second appearance since suffering an eye injury while playing for Bath against Aviva Premiership rivals Gloucester on October 1.
England boss Martin Johnson is due to name his team tomorrow for next Saturday’s Twickenham appointment with Australia.
