New Zealand’s Super 15 sides were today announced in Auckland for the revamped 2011 competition.

There was very little fan fare or great interest in their announcement with few surprise inclusions, omissions or changes of franchise.

With the longer competition format in 2011, 160 players received contracts with franchise rosters increased to 32 playing staff. There are 40 players who pick up Super contracts for the first time, with 12 player’s changing franchises.

The most notable new Super player is Sonny Bill Williams from Toulon, the most interesting change of franchise is Colin Slade’s move from the Crusaders to southern rivals the Highlanders.

One exciting youngster of note to secure a professional contract is Under 20 Captain and fly half Tyler Bleyendall who will learn the ropes as the understudy to super star fly half Daniel Carter. Bleyendall is joined by 6 of his team mates from the World Championship winning side.

Those players considered the most unlucky to miss contracts are promising fly half’s Gareth Anscombe from Auckland and Taranaki’s Beauden Barrett .

  • NEWS FLASH: All Blacks only to be rested for two rounds, but not however at the start of the season.

With there being two bye rounds that gives them a four week window to potentially rest up !

Don’t know the whole plan….The composition of the Tri Nation Teams could be interesting.

Is their a chance they won’t be granted ‘Test Status’, we all know what teams the Bok roll out away from home in RWC year.

One has to wonder why a Tri Nations in a World Cup year is necessary?

maybe just semantics but just to ensure we are on the same page.

It’s not really a 4 week window unless the byes are seperated by 2 rounds thus giving them a 4 week window. It will probably be 4 individual weekends of rest at various times.

    That’s how I see it.

  • @zvision10 (Comment 18) :

You forget Benson Stanley he is almost a dead cert.

AB selectors want McAlister to only play 12 and ranger to compete with Richard Kahui for a RWC spot. …..he will play wing.

they also see Toeava as playing a utility role like he is doing on the end of year tour 12, 13 11, 14, 15.

In your picks the Blues and Tahs and missing they will both be competitive.

I think it will be the same old suspects SHARKS may find it tough.
