The Leopards have lured nine new players into their squad for 2011 season that was announced today. As is the case at most union’s, the Leopards started their pre-season training on Monday.
Three players who represented the Leopards at junior level were welcomed back to the squad. Flank Robert Kruger (Leopards under-19 and under-20) scrumhalf Whestley Moolman and prop Peet Vorster (both Craven Week Leopards players) returned to the North West Province.
Other new faces includes that of Vainon Willis of the Bulls and NWU-Pukke hooker Stoffel Duvenhage, who will be looking to make as big an impact as he did in the Varsity Cup. Shimlas centre Charl Weideman and Tuks lock MB Lusaseni are hoping to follow suit when they join the team at the start of the Currie Cup season. Leopards under-21 captain Joubert Engelbrecht was rewarded with a senior contract after an exemplary season.
Lock Brendon Snyman is another addition to the team after he enjoyed a stint at the Eastern Province Kings. He has been tasked with filling the void left by retired second-rower Draad Linde and Anthonie Gronum who is on loan to Border.
For many of these players 2011 will be their third year representing the Leopards in the premier division of the Currie Cup.
