For those of you who don’t already know (which is strange, cos I’ve told, like, EVERYONE) I will be attending tomorrow’s test match between the Scots and the Springboks at Murrayfield, as a guest of the Scottish Rugby Union.
Firstly, this article is not intended to make you all jealous (well, maybe just a little bit!) but rather to say a big thank you to every single one of you that has made this trip possible for me. Fact is, were it not for the frankly staggering amount of daily traffic that this little website of ours attracts every single day, I would not have been able to put together a convincing enough motivation to send through with the accreditation request. Every article, every comment, every like on Facebook or mention on Twitter – in fact, even just telling your friends and family about what a great site this is – has helped just that little extra bit and because we are now big enough to be taken (just a little bit) seriously, we’re enjoying access that we didn’t have before. That means, simply put, more contacts and ultimately more inside information that we can share.
It also means a free lunch at Murrayfield, as it turns out, but more about that later.
I thought that I’d share just a little bit of my excitement by revealing, roughly, what my day is going to look like tomorrow. So, with no further ado, this is what my itinerary looks like for Saturday, 20 November.
6:00am – wake up, get the wife and kids out of bed (who am I kidding, the kids will already be awake). Will need to make the wife tea to say thanks (and sorry).
6:30am – pile in the car for the short trip from Sevenoaks (where I live in Kent) to Gatwick Airport in Sussex.
7:00am – arrive at Gatwick. Kiss family goodbye. Go find coffee and breakfast.
8:30am – catch at EasyJet flight to Edinburgh. Remember to keep some spare change in case I have to pay to use the toilet.
9:55am – arrive in Edinburgh. Cue fake Scottish accent.
10:15am – catch AirLink bus from Edinburgh airport to the City Centre. Get off at Shandwick Place.
11:00am – meet my old friend James for a cup of coffee and a catch up
12:00pm – head on over to the Press Centre at Murrayfield Stadium for a briefing, followed by lunch.
12:30pm – have lunch and hopefully finally get to meet Mike Greenaway, Gavin Rich, Adnaan Mohamed, Rob Houwing and whichever of Keo’s midgets managed to sneak past security.
2:30pm – match time! Watch the Boks KLAP Scotland while (WiFi depending) providing running commentary on Sharksworld and Twitter
4:30pm – soak up the post-match atmosphere and attend whatever press conferences are available
7:00pm – catch Airlink bus from outside Murrayfield back to the Airport. Write a match report on the bus (again, WiFi depending).
7:30pm – arrive Airport. Try find a quick snack.
8:10pm – catch flight back to Gatwick.
9:35pm – arrive at Gatwick
10:07pm – catch the train from Gatwick to London Victoria Station.
10:50pm – catch the train from Victoria to Sevenoaks
11:30pm – get a cab home from the station.
11:35pm – arrive home. Geez what a day!
So there we have it, chaps. I think it’s going to be legendary. Now I just need to get a tattoo of Lwazi Mvovo before I go, cos the lad is going to score 3 tries on debut and I want to mark the occasion.Tweet
