According to information we’ve received, Rory Kockott should be sitting down with the Sharks in the next few days to decide on his future.
Although Kockott is currently in pre-season training with the Sharks, he does not currently have a contract and we are also led to believe that a deal with Western Province is still very much on the table. Kockott, we believe, wishes to stay in Durban and fight for his place, this after dropping down the pecking order behind Charl McLeod – and possibly even new recruit Conrad Hoffman.
We’re hoping to be able to have some clarity on whether Rory will stay or go towards the end of next week.

Hope Rory will stay with the Sharks!!! Come on Straueli – give him a contract – most of the supporters are pleased when he comes on the field – THEY SCREAM ‘RORY RORY’ WHEN HE RUNS ON THE FIELD – SPECIALLY WHERE I SIT. PLEASE STAY RORY!!!!!!!
hope he stays.
Rory is not a bad player, but he takes far too long to get the ball to his flyhalf. And offcourse there is him running away from his support. If he can fix those aspects of his game he might be able to get back into the starting line-up. Plus he will have his boot as an extra bonus if needed.
So should he stay or should he go? I think those problems could be addressed and that I would like him to stay.
Rory Kockott should be sitting down with the Sharks in the next few days to decide on his future.
Familiar position this for old Rory lately, this sitting down.
@Morné (Comment 4) :
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Did the braai start last night and was an all-nighter??
@Ice-Cool CC Champ 2010 (Comment 5) :
All nighter!
@Morné (Comment 6) :
Now it makes perfectly sense!! But please continue! I am having a ball!!
@Morné (Comment 6) :
Oh – and lets keep BF off the site today…he is mos famous for the “friends dont let friends post drunk”
@Ice-Cool CC Champ 2010 (Comment 7) :
Sorry babe, I am leaving at 12 today, need to get another braai going…
@Farlington (Comment 3) : Riry is a pressure kicker too… you don’t want to just sommer throw that away. I still think he’d be a great fullback
Please may roroy go to wp
once he is a contracted shark i will back him all the way !
I think he is just to selfish and has an average passing game at best ,partly the reason for frans steyn pathetic s14 at fly! Charl 100 times the player
@robdylan (Comment 10) :
RIRY?? Are you at Morra’s braai?
i think the sharks will make a mistake if they let rory go. he did lose a bit of form, but he will be back to his best very soon. just wish he had a great pass like charl. agree with you rob, he could be used in other positions like fullback. really hope he stays. he wouldn’t look good in the blue and white hoops
oh and conrad hoffman is really talented like a more agressive ruan pienaar,very excited about him
@robdylan (Comment 10) : That is why mentioned his boot. Could be handy.
Do you think Rory has the ability to attack from the back? We all know he likes taking his chance from close courters but will he have the ability when the defenders have time to line him up? Also pace wise compared to let’s say Ludik?
Please,Straueli,give Rory a contract!!
Then work on his failings..what is pre-season for anyway,then?
I would like Rory to stay and fight for is position. He has many natural attributes as a rugby player and if he can get his head right and adapt to the way the Sharks play he could still be a valuable player for us.
I know Conrad Hofman is a talented player, but he has minimal experience at higher levels, I would much rather see Rory as a backup than a guy who hasn’t played a full season of senior rugby at 9.
So I’m hoping this sit down will end in a Sharks contract for Rory. Even if it’s just for a year.
well i am hoping he stays
people are quick to forget the good things he did at the sharks
yes he has a bit of an attitude problem , so did james small etc
but he is a damn good accurate kicker and that alone counts for a lot
the fact that he sometimes runs away from support is not always his fault that the players around him cant read the play
i’m happy for him to be a wing that kicks. he is far too selfish and slow for 9.
ok i know we dont worry about keoclowns but i thought this rather funny
here is your typical WP supporter

Hey everyone!
Problem started with all loving the Sharks Final win and telling them how great it was. Infact…I felt the Sharks werent that great….just Province sucked with a game plan similar to Snor…….no new out of the box thinking.
Then came the injuries and every sharks on the BENCH got the call up……the No 9 Mclead….I mean…what must Sarel and Jano vermaak think of that? And Kanko, Lambie……bissie….Alberts…….any thing with a shark in the background got picked…………big mistake!!!! Muir had hand in for sure!
Snor could have rested some players and picked Duane Vermeulen, Flo, Alberts, Stefan …don’t laugh……even hard running 15 from Griquas Riaan would be better than Zane.
SO the Sharks are now to blame for the bok problems
Saw this and thought it would make a good read especially with tomorrow in mind

@sharks_lover (Comment 20) : well then WP suck all the time since they lost to The Sharks 3 times just this year then they lost to The Bull in Soweto they sucked then too
but then its Hoops posting a loon with little if any rugby knowledge and no credibility
Rory stay please u won’t look great in a blue and white u’ll up ur game every body has a bad hair day from time to time ask our one and only WPW
I think we can do without rory,besides I’m a fan of ross cronje and I think he has earned his shot,time for the local boys to get some game time just look at what happened when lambie was given a shot I think the same will happen with the cronje brothers,if the coach keeps ignoring them than it’s only a matter of time before the lions or cheetahs snap them up,and trust me these boys won’t hold back against the sharks,just look at warren whitley at the lions!
@Poisy (Comment 24) : i like them 2 they are great when they are on the field i can’t even tell the diffs between the 2 of them maybe if i c them close up then i would
I would rather play with Rory in my team than against him.
Sometimes he brings an x factor other teams just don`t see coming.
Also he`s a valuable goal kicker . .. a very serious consideration of you take into account our choice flyhalf is a 60% kicker . . .
But yeah, hang on to Rory and we might find Charl on the road to Jhb
@Original Champion (Comment 26) :
noooooooooooooooo
we can hv them both
@chaz (Comment 27) : That`s whay I`m trying to say, I don`t want to lose Charl, but if we don`t play Rory we`ll lose him sooner rather than later.
Maybe we should go the All Black route and give each of them a half every weekend
@Original Champion (Comment 28) : maybe that will work each hv a half of playing toss before the game and c who plays 1st
I always rated Rory as a scrummie, even preferred him to Ruan, but since Charl has been playing so well this year Rory just does not seem to do it any more. There is a noticeable difference in the way the Sharks back-line performs when Charl is on the field compared to when Rory is there. Charl is just so much quicker and gives our fh so much time to make decisions.
A real hard decision whether Rory should stay or not, but despite all the negatives regarding his slow clearing of the ball, I reckon he still has a lot to offer the Sharks and he should be given a contract.
@chaz (Comment 25) : hahaha I know what you mean,when I played against them in high school you seperated them by looking at what foot they kick the ball with,haahaha not that it worked because they can use both feet equally well
they are a tricky lot lmao
@jonnow (Comment 30) : Ditto
Really hope Rory stays, next year we will be needing bigger squads. Also we never know when the next injury comes. Mcleod was brilliant this CC but if he ever got injured think we would be needing Rory. Still have to see how Hoffman plays.
I just realised that we might have 15 springboks playing 4us next year at the same time:
15 Terblanche
14 JPP
13 Mvovo
12 Bosman
11 Odwa
10 Lambie
9 McLOed ( should get a cap 4 the Baa Baas game, Ruan is leaving 4 club duty)
8 Kanko
7 Deysal
6 Keegs
5 Al Harg
4 Alberts
3 Jannie
2 Bissie
1 Beast
Plus John Smith! Any1 I left out?
Oh yeah and Adi Jacobs
@Mocho (Comment 34) : Mvovo center?
That experiment didn`t exactly work when FS tried fast mover Mapoe there . . .
Maybe try Adi outside Bosman?
Little worried about Bosmans` defence.
To quote my best friend.. Rory is a real <edited>so and so</edited>
@Mocho (Comment 34) : I don’t think the Barbarians match has test status, therefore, no Bok caps handed out. Much like the mud trackers matches in the old tours. Too bad for Charl though, but if he continues his form in the Super 15, he may well work himself in as the third scrumhalf at the RWC.
As for Rory, nobody has mentioned anything about his defense. He is much stronger defensively than McLeod, he is a terrier, and does a good job of getting under the opposing 9′s skin. If he could only speed up his delivery. As for “running away from support”, I just can’t agree, it is more a case of his support not supporting him well.
I watched the Scotland match again, and when Kanko chased down the kick he had support on his outside, but cut inside. Everyone blamed him for running away from his support. I watched his support carefully and even when Kanko cut in, then never changed their line, they failed horribly to support him. All they had to do was change their support line when he cut inside, he created a lot of options if they had been on his shoulders.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 37) : That’s harsh….
@ Dancing Bear
That is based on personal experience. So no, not harsh..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 40) : based on personal experience??? Does not shine the best light on you then…
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 37) : he’s just lost his form
somewhere gv him some space to think he’ll come around
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 40) : well he is better than old pretoors
@Dancing Bear (Comment 41) : That was just a joke…..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 40) : I am not sure what he could possibly have done to you or anyone here that deserves that level of name calling on a public forum. But then again, perhaps I am just getting old and turning into a prude.
Rory shall rise again!
@Dancing Bear (Comment 44) :
Apologies for the name calling. It was done whilst not in the best of moods thanx to him. Apologies for doing it here for all to see.
@Honey Badger (Comment 45) : Amen
i think so to but he better up his game very quickly because there are yougster that are coming through and still want to prove themselves
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 46) :
gee this week-end is so quite on SW what are we going to do when the EOYT is over and still along time away from the S15
