News24 let the cat out of the bag this morning, by confirming that Rory Kockott will return to the Lions. Sharksworld was told about this move a few weeks ago and finally had confirmation from within the squad on Tuesday evening.
Our information was that neither Union was planning to announce the move until the new year and we respected that embargo, but since it has now broken elsewhere, I guess there’s ‘s very little point in not confirming it from our side as well.
Speculation has been mounting about the enigmatic scrumhalf’s future ever since he was not announced as one of the Sharks’ contracted players for 2011. Rumours last year linked him to a move to Western Province, but despite some quite credible sources insisting that a move to the Cape was on the cards, nothing came of it. The Lions have again proved true to form and signed the player despite having ample depth in the position, including one of their better players over the past few seasons, Jano Vermaak. Promising Leopards scrumhalf Michael Bondesio has also joined the Lions.
So cheers then, Rory! We wish you nothing but the best for your career at the Lions and beyond and appreciate all the efforts you have put in on behalf of the Sharks and their fans over the last few seasons.Tweet
