Cricket: SA v India Day 4

Day 3 was one of the most exciting days of cricket I have ever seen, with a battle between the world’s best batsman and the world’s greatest bowler showing what test cricket is all about! Steyn and Tendulkar went at each other for most of the day, which ended when Tendulkar was bowled by Morkel.

After each team’s first innings, India had a 2 run lead.

South Africa are 52/2 at the end of day 3, with a 50 run lead.

  • After Australia’s 280 in the first innings, England are on 463/6 and lead by 183 runs. There are still 12 overs left in their third day of play.

You guys better release Whitehead to us now before Lions sign him and he sits on the bench the whole year. At least he`ll get gametime in Durban. I still think Durban is marginally better than Jhb anyway.

Can’t see us winning this test. What a shame we lost the test at Kingsmead, cause we won the toss and bowled them out easy, just to lose the plot and get bowled out even faster ourselves.

Said yesterday once Smith went we were gonna struggle. Should never have sent in Harris either as night watchman, should still have his wicket. Amla should have came in, we just wasted a wicket by sending in Harris. Pity.

Hope Boucher and Kallis bat until close that might give us a bit of a chance.

  • I think between Prince and Petersen someone needs to get dropped!!

Harris is also not good enough to play test cricket.

    Elgar in place of Petersen
    Tahir to replace Harris
AB to replace Boucher with JP coming into the side.

    Elgar
    Smith
    Amla
    Kallis
    Prince
    JP
    AB (keeper)
    Steyn
    Morkel
    Tahir

  • @bergshark (Comment 71) : Sure will be. Had we batted better in Durbs we could have had this sown up already. Think we need a lead of 300 here to be safe. Not sure we will get close to that. Then with Kallis and Boucher there we still have a chance, that is if we are still batting by close. We lose any of these wickets and the Indians come into bat before close tonight they will win this.

  • @wpw (Comment 74) : @Richard Ferguson (KCM) (Comment 76) : Good team that WPW. I would just move AB to 6 probably needs to come in a bit later if he keeps.

Hope we see JP back to playing like he did in Oz two years back. He has great talent. If he does not get it back then maybe would also consider McLaren he too is a all rounder. Think though if JP is on form he bats better.

Harris has to be dropped for Tahir no doubts about that one.

  • ’438′ clash voted top ODI ever

Dubai – To coincide with the 40th anniversary of the first One-Day International, cricket fans from almost 100 countries around the world have cast their votes on the ICC website for what they consider to be the all-time ODI team.

In total, fans from 97 countries cast almost 600 000 votes on http://www.icc-cricket.com between December 22 and January 2 to make their views known as to who have been the best ODI players of the past 40 years in the key categories of opening batsmen, middle-order batsmen, wicketkeeper, spin bowlers and fast bowlers.

Three players from Australia and India, two from the West Indies and one each from South Africa, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have made the final dream XI with another Aussie named as 12th man while the momentous “438” game between South Africa and Australia in Johannesburg in 2006 has been voted the best ODI yet.

Also without Steyn’s bowling we may not have been in this position too. Both have been awesome this series.

We could just do it now with a 300 lead. Just have to bowl really smart tomorrow.
