Sharks lock forward Steven Sykes will tie the knot with his long-time sweetheart Velene in Durban this afternoon.
We’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate the happy couple and wish them nothing but success and happiness for the future. Thanks to ridiculously generous offer from Steven’s agent, Anthony at World Artists, our main man Richard will be attending the wedding today and will be sure to pass on our warmest congratulations – and a special gift from all of us at Sharksworld – to Steven and Velene.
I’d like to take this opportunity to point out just how helpful and co-operative all the guys at World Artists have been over the last few months – apart from facilitating this great opportunity for Richard, they were instrumental in setting up our recent interviews with Jacques-Louis Potgieter and Conrad Hoffman as well. To Anthony, Peter and the team, we appreciate all you’ve done for us and we look forward to a much closer working relationship in the future.
In the meantime, check out www.ruggavibe.com, a site run by the World Artists team aimed at providing a more “behind the scenes” look at the goings on in and around the professional sports landcape in South Africa and beyond. Sharksworld will be working closely with Ruggavibe in the future to explore ways to share content in a way that is beneficial to both of our respective readerships.

Congrat’s Syksie….I hope your body isn’t too sore after the weeks training for…..well you know what!
All the best Steve and Velene: may you know many happy years together.
And thanks to World Artists for allowing us closer to the players.
A mate of mine was at the bachelors, glad everybody survived it!
Congrats Steven! Wishing you guys a wonderful and blessed life together!
Go die haai!
Very Interesting.
Groundbreaking devcelopment this (I think) and will surely add to remaining abreast of things.
Well done.
Richard, behave yourself.
Most impostantly, Congratulations Steven and Velene.
Congratulations Steven an Velene! May you be very happy and have loads of kiddies!
Congrats to Mr & Mss Sykes
What?!?!?!?!?!?
Sykes is tired of being happy?
@Ice (KCM) (Comment 6) :
Ever time I see him or read his name (Sykes) I think of you. Why.
@Salmonoid (Comment 9) : do we have a “don’t go there” emoticon?
Congratulations to the happy couple, all the best, and enjoy this special moment in your lives.
Rob, really chuffed to read about your relationship with World Artists. As one of the “originals” on this site, I know where you started, and you truly have done a superb job of getting “inside” the Sharks. Your hard work in nurturing these types of relationships has resulted in this site being “the” place for all news relating to the Sharks. Great job to all involved, and keep it up!
Will Richard be blogging from the wedding???
@Dancing Bear (Comment 12) : he’ll do us a wonderful story afterwards, I’m sure
Wow,incredible stuff.I would think something like this would usually be unheard of.
@robdylan (Comment 13) : My comment was completely facetious. Even if Richard does write the article, I won’t be reading it, I just feel weddings are private affairs, and if they really wanted me to know about it they would have invited me.
Is she the daughter of Werner and Dalene?
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 14) : Claytie, you need to add a DHL logo to your avatar, red letters on a yellow background of course.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 14) : you know the coolest part? We’re depriving the bloodsuckers at Huisgenoot of a seat!
@robdylan (Comment 18) : “Siembamba, mamma se kindtjie
Siembamba, mamma se kindtjie
Draai sy nek om, gooi hom in die sloot
Trap op sy kop en verkoop die storie aan die Huisgenoot”
Classic lyrics from Battery 9, I forget which song
@robdylan (Comment 18) : The rules on this site, appropriately enforced, keep things more positive here, more upbeat. I’m sure the players and management appreciate the tone and as a result, feel much more comfortable with a Sharksworld representative than any other reporter or media type. Can you imagine what Keo would do with an opportunity like this, it would be ridiculous and nobody wants their wedding turned into a circus.
@robdylan (Comment 18) : Oh it just got a billion times better
@Dancing Bear (Comment 17) : Did you have to take it there, Im about to embark on an awesome west coast weekend and you decide to take it there!
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 22) : you deserve every bit of that
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 22) : hehehe, sorry boet, not another mention I promise, other than the Sharks jerseys seem so nice, so attractive even with the logos.
It’s OK, will the Stormers be playing in the blue and white hoops in the Super 15? I generally dislike sponsor logos, but I would like to see a return to the hoops, it is WP rugby after all. I felt the same way when the Sharks went back to black and white and away from the grey.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 8) : what happens if I reply to comment 8?
ok – so I’d like to officially welcome you all to WordPress 3.0.4
I really dont know why the Stormers dont play in the hoops, a super secret kit is about to be released but its just going to be another shade of navy blue with red and yellow in the middle,woopdeedoo
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 27) : changing the colour of the kit to fit in with a sponsor is tantamount to treason and should be punishable by death. Add a flippin DHL logo if you must, but keep the jersey as is.
Must say, I quite liked the jersey the Stormers have worn the last two years. It’s important for the Super Rugby team to have a visually distinct identity to the Currie Cup side, but it must obviously still all link up
@robdylan (Comment 18) :
AWESOME!!!!!!!!
@robdylan (Comment 10) :
Its desperately needed.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 27) : @robdylan (Comment 28) :
at the time. After now reading that the jersey is a secret I went back to the site and the Stormers jersey is now gone from the site. Im sure I was not the only one to have seen that and now I wonder why it has been removed. My guess is that it is going to be redesigned because that yellow and blue hooped jersey is a real “up yours” to the lineage of WP rugby.
When Rob put up the article about the Sharks new kit there was a link to Sneakers’ website and one of the jerseys there was a Stormers jersey. It was hooped, blue and yellow with the dhl logo. I still thought
Congratulations Steven and Velene,
hope the life you are begining together is a great and happy one
