  • Tahir must play. We need a aggressive spinner. Drop Ingram and Miller and play Faf and Tahir.

  • @Tommy Chilcott (Comment 3) : Our tail is already so long that I don’t think we can afford to drop 2 batsmen and replace them with one batter and a spin bowler. If you want Tahir to play another bowler would have to be dropped

  • SA hasn’t had such a long tail in many years. Remember when Pollock and Klusener still batted at 9 or 10 and the only true tail ender was Ntini. Where have all the allrounders gone??

  • 1. Our tail is horrendous.
    2. Tahir must play if he is to feature prominently in the WC before he goes untested and untried. (maybe they wil get him ready for the KO stages {if we make it that far lol})
    3. Gotta give miller / ingram another chance.
    4. Drop Botha for Tahir.

My team: 1 Smith, 2 Amla, 3 Ingram, 4 AB, 5 JP, 6 Miller, 7 Wayne Parnell, 8 Dale Steyn, 9 Tahir, 10 Morne Morkel, 11 Lonwabo Tsotsobe

  • @Pokkel (Comment 22) : Yeah I didnt think of that. But for me, i just dont think its a move forward appointing botha as captain. Yes his captaincy has been applauded, but as a matchwinner his record is less than glamorous.
After losing his doosra, its been even more sub standard. 66 Matches and 62 wickets; averaging 40.50 at 4.64rpo and a strike rate of 52.3.
Maybe our new coach will choose his captain.
Interestingly enough, Botha is only 28 but to me he looks over 30!

All the all rounder in the world and we have no titles to show for it.

I think the Aussies and to a lesser extent Sri Lanka proved that in ODI cricket, you need your batsmen to score runs but more NB you need wicket takers!!

AUS had Warne and their allrounder was Adam Gilchrist and Steve Waugh also chipped in with a wicket here or there!!

Im not saying all rounders are not good and I agree that Polly, Kallis and Klusener were awesome to have but too many is not good!!

Andrew Hall comes to mind and so too Johan VD Wath.

    6 batsmen
1 all rounder and 4 bowlers is where its at. ;-)

Also would have given Tahir some game time before the wc. Should have played in this game today. Pity we missing out I think. Our tail is so long, so probably why he never got selected. Think if Kallis was playing instead of Ingram probably Tahir might have got a game today. We missing Kallis big time here.

We playing rubbish, can’t see this side winning anything in India.

We miss Kallis big time. Selectors must think smart now, Ingram must be dropped and bring in Van Wyk.

  • Okay what will we get for the last 10 overs? Probably 50 or 60 the way it is going, that is if we don’t lose any wickets. 232/242 total. Will that be enough? Not so sure. Remember us chasing down a huge score against WI here in the 2003 world cup. Think it was 290 WI got can’t remember the exact score, but we only just came short in not getting that score. So not sure if 240 will be enough. Then you never know. Like they bowled us out for 189 when I thought we would beat them easy on Saturday.

For starters, Parnell and Ingram are out of their depth. Botha hasn´t troubled any batsmen of late and we have a tail that starts when the 5th wicket falls.

  • Piss poor that’s what parnell has been. I don’t wanna be too negative but sa are a bit toothless. This is a severly weakened indian team on our own pitches and we can’t put them away. Fielding has been sloppy too and you can’t blame anyone for that. Hope they pull it back tonight, but the cracks are there so it needs to be addressed.

Also do we have a bowling coach at the moment. I see alan donald has signed with NZ. Don’t know why we couldn’t have signed him up to help us instead.

Its going to be a battle to reach the semi’s alone!

Steyn is consistent and a strike bowler.

And he has now taken 2 wickets every game, and has been good. But to give him a break ahead of the World Cup to play Tahir is not such a bad idea is it?

We know what we have in Steyn, but will he be effective in India? That said, give Lpsy and Morkel a chance to battle it out for who will be the other seamer in the World Cup line up.
