Matt Giteau has told the press that he will make an announcement about his post-World Cup future before the Super Rugby season kicks off in earnest, to avoid any speculation becoming a distraction during the competition. The smart money seems to be on him deciding to join French club Toulon.
Giteau, who has seen his shares plummet somewhat at national level – losing his place in the Wallabies side to Berrick Barnes in November – is still contracted to the Wallabies until the end of this year’s World Cup. He is expected to confirm his plans within the next few weeks, before hopefully playing a starring role in the Brumbies’ upcoming Super Rugby campaign.
Giteau is expected to captain the side in the early stages of the competition, as both regular captaincy candidates Rocky Elsom and Stephen Hoiles are currently injured.Tweet
