One of the seemingly “forgotten men” of South African rugby, Trompie Nontshinga, will apparently play for College Rovers in Durban this season. Nontshinga, who was at one stage regarded as one of the most exciting wingers in the country, will hope to play his way into the Sharks XV team for this year’s Vodacom Cup.
After representing South Africa at age-group level back in 2004, the young winger first made his mark playing for the Cheetahs in the 2005 Currie Cup. He was then snapped up by the Bulls, but struggled to earn regular gametime in Pretoria. It was in 2008 that he really shone, when playing for the Lions on loan in the Currie Cup. The Joburg team were keen to secure his services for the next year, but he then made the somewhat strange decision to rather sign for Griquas.
Trompie played no rugby at all in 2010 – presumably as a result of injury – but with the Sharks XV squad short on wingers, not to mention experienced players in general, don’t be too surprised if Sean Everitt takes a serious look at Nontshinga this season.Tweet
