The Blou Bulle can’t seem to catch a break with regard to the vital scrumhalf position; newly capped Springbok Francois Hougaard has been ruled out for 4 weeks due to a stress fracture in his foot.
The Bulls are anxiously holding fumbs that the fiery young number 9 will be ready for the Super Rugby game against the Lions on 9 February 2011, but judging by the late diagnosis last week, this seems unlikely.
While the Blou Masjien will miss his speed, creativity and tigerish defence, they have a reasonable replacement in the form of one Fourie du Preez – a man certainly deserving of 2 surnames. However, while both the Bulls and the Springboks are anxiously hoping that du Preez will yet again be the general to guide their respective teams to glory this year, he is just returning from a lengthy lay-off, and will need some time to ease into the high-paced Super rugby league, leave alone being ready for the intensity of test rugby.
Even if he does make a quick recovery, Hougaard can certainly be expected to play a significant impact role off the bench at both provincial and national level, and so we wish the mulleted star all the best for a speedy recovery.Tweet
