  • Just like the Sharks, they look a little vulnerable at no.13. Jantjies might be the glue that makes this team stick.
    Where is Renaldo Bothma?

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) : Ya I figured he’ll be the starter but judging by last year’s effort I think he still has a long way to go to prove himself as a centre. He was a first class wing tho.

Do you think he will be a starter ahead of the likes of Killian?

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 4) : Yeah I don’t think the Lions will opt for Killian as a centre. He’s a wing / fullback, the latter his best possie. Killian can be one of the most exciting attacking players in the country on his day but he can also be pretty flat. I’d say Killian and Chavhanga as wings with Taute at 15. But at some point this year they must try Taute at 13 IMO.

  • Well Murray is good enough at 13, they better hope nothing happens to him.

Mapoe wasn`t very successfull at 13 for FS was he?

You must have VERY high standards. I think we are very well covered at 12/13
    12. Bosman, Adi, JLP (on occasion)
    13. Stefan with Adi when needed

    more than enough IMO.

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 10) : I was commenting on 13 where we have a 35 year old, a guy everyone excluding the Sharks diehard supporters thinks is past his sell by date, just signed Bulls no.10 and a recently converted wing who wasn’t in great form in 2010. I honestly don’t think my standards are set too high.
Please also don’t take this as me not wanting all the above mentioned to succeed, I really do.

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 15) : Kamana should be on the left with Van Rensburg or Boshoff right?

Wonder what happened to Mjekevu and Earl Lewis?

  • @beet (Comment 18) : Saw a little youtube clip of him. Seems like a lively wing, not too big but a difficult customer from Waikato.

Don`t know anything about his defense but they might give him a run, he might be the surprise package they need. . .

All Black 7s player. I suspect he has come to Super Rugby in search of more money, VERY useful and has the fortunate or unfortunate distinction that he does not have to be rested for upcoming RWC or 3Ns

Expect to see A LOT of him.

  • Only two players that I’m dissapointed to see in this squad are Mike Rhodes and Pat Cilliers. Would have preferred to see them with the Sharks…..but I understand.

    100%

Born in Hamilton, he played 13 games for Waikato since debuting against Taranaki in 2007. He was also part of Gordon Tietjens’ New Zealand sevens team in 2008, playing world circuit rounds in Dubai and George, South Africa.

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 24) : His record doesn’t look that impressive. But then again neither did Mvovo’s this time last year. By tomorrow night we’ll all be able to form a first impression opinion of him.

  • Probable side for Friday Night:

Michael Killian; Tonderai Chavhanga, Waylon Murray, Jaco Taute, Jannie Boshoff; André Pretorius, Jano Vermaak; Warren Whiteley, Josh Strauss, Derrick Minnie, Franco van der Merwe (c), George Earle, Kevin Buys, Bandise Maku, JC van Rensburg

Not really sure about Taute at 12, JM is obviously just trying out combinations.
Also no Rory so I have to think he`s saving him.

Will probably start with their first team halfback pair, Jantjies and Kockett in their next match Tuesday night against us.

  • @Original Champion (Comment 26) : Even if Kockott reproduces his 2008 form, I’ll be surprised if he is able to unseat Jano. Jano is one of the most underrated players in SA IMO.
Actually Minnie vs Baywatch as a starter could be quite a poser for the coach come to think of it.
