Force coach Richard Graham has announced his team to face the Reds in the last game of the opening round of the Super Rugby season. The team will be captained by Nathan Sharpe and includes Australia Rugby player of the year David Pocock.

Youngster James O’Connor will take over the pivotal flyhalf jersey after New Zealand recruit Willie Ripia injured his foot.

The Force will take heart from the fact that the written off Highlanders beat the much vaunted Hurricanes team this morning, and will be hoping to pull off another shock by beating the favoured Reds team at their home ground.

Western Force Squad:
1. Pek Cowan, 2. Ben Whittaker, 3. Tim Fairbrother, 4. Ben McCalman, 5. Nathan Sharpe, 6. Matt Hodgson, 7. David Pocock, 8. Richard Brown, 9. Brett Sheehan, 10. James O’Connor, 11. David Smith, 12. Gene Fairbanks, 13. Mitch Inman, 14. Nick Cummins, 15. Cameron Shepherd
Reserves:16. Nathan Charles, 17. Kieran Longbottom, 18. Sam Wykes, 19. Tevita Metuisela, 20. James Stannard, 21. Alfie Mafi, 22. Rory Sidey

  • These guys have not had too much like foreign flyhalf signings. Not a bad team though.

  • James O’connor is in my FL squad. Could get some cool points here now that he has taken over the flyhalf spot.

i think Shepherd will still kick though.

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 2) : Possibly O’Connor for short kicks and Shepherd for the longer ones?

I think the difference is marginal even if the guy scores an average number of kicks and his team loses. It is only going to make a small difference IMO. ;-)
