I don’t know the guy at all? I hope it’s not a debut match. We all know what happened last time we had a debutant ref us against the Chiefs.

  • Who the hell is Garratt Williamson? Never heard of him and we get him twice. I like the refs for our home games though.

  • Garrat Williamson seems to be an okay referee. He has been around for a while and seems to have been sneaking by under the radar. (ie. not getting his name in the media with controversial calls)

    Refereed Stormers v Cheetahs Rnd 14 2009.
Refereed Crusaders v Brumbies last weekend

  • What is with SANZAR and the appointment of up and coming referees to crucial BIG Games.

    Week6
    Crusaders vs Sharks
    Referee: Garratt Williamson (New Zealand)

    Week7
    Crusaders vs Bulls
    Referee: Jonathon White (New Zealand)

I would consider BOTH these games BIG games and appointing new kids on the block is very risky IMO.

Sounds like you blokes need to watch a bit more rugby to have a more informed opinion !

Hardly new kids on the block.

….. we can’t have those same 4 SA refs doing everything can we ! :???:

….I introduced myself to Mark Lawrence when he was in Dunedin to ref the Highlanders against the Chiefs !

  • @Hertford Highlander (Comment 12) : Williamson has a much better CV than I gave him credit for.

White though is VERY new to be reffing such a big game IMO.

Our SA refs start off with nothing games, where an error or two and the result will have very little if any affect on the outcome or tables.

Jaco Peyper as an example has done a few and is now getting bigger games, Pro Legoete has done a few, was shown to not really be of the standard required and has remained at that level, while Jason Jaftha has done a few has shown he is damn good and is now doing bigger games.

  • Really never heard of Garratt Williamson. So do hope he refs okay. We have him for the Saders game as well.

Not sure about how anyone else thinks, but I always prefer neutral refs.
