The Stormers have made one injury enforced change to their team that beat the Bulls at Loftus last weekend. The team to face the Force will again be captained by Jean de Villiers from the inside centre position.

Regular Stormers captain Schalk Burger is not going to be risked against the Force even though he has been training this week. The only change is that of Rynhardt Elstadt who injured his ankle in the game against the Bulls and has been replaced by De Kock Steenkamp.

On the bench we see the return of Currie Cup captain Anton van Zyl, back to fitness after dislocating his shoulder in pre season training. Another change on the bench is Lionel Cronje coming in for Gary van Aswegen.

Stormers team:
Gio Aplon, Danie Poolman, Jaque Fourie, Jean de Villiers (captain), Bryan Habana, Peter Grant, Dewaldt Duvenage, Duane Vermeulen, Francois Louw, Pieter Louw, Andries Bekker, De Kock Steenkamp, Brok Harris, Deon Fourie, Wicus Blaauw.

Replacements: Siyanbonga Ntubeni, CJ van der Linde, Anton van Zyl, Nick Koster, Ricky Januarie, Lionel Cronje, Juan de Jongh.

  • What’s happened to Reyneke. They bring him back from Europe and then replace him with the 20 yr old that they had in the first place.

Lionel Cronje has put in 2 good performances in the VodaCup but at fullback. He really should have been playing flyhalf for those games. If Grant has played an entire season in Japan followed by consecutive S/R matches then surely he must top the list of crucial players in need of a time out or does the resting thing fall away when you cross the equator? At some stage Lionel will have to have another bash at being a no.10 – will he be hot or cold?

Re: Lionel – trust me when I say this, EVERYONE is trying to get to the bottom of this issue.

For some reason he has gone from second choice flyhalf (last year’s S14) to VC side and even behind Van Aswegan in the pecking order.

    Something is fishy!!

Only thing I can think of is that he got bullied by the Sharks in the CC final, but then so did the rest of the team.

No I dont really think it was the final, just my way of also saying I dont understand it.

    Fleck doesnt like attitude?

Lions, Cheetahs, Bulls could surely find a role for him, if not immediately then in the near future.

  • @Salmonoid (Comment 11) : I watched him as a schoolboy and he has oodles of talent, but there was some trouble in a pub last year and since then he has not really got a look in!! Gary van aswegen is a talented player as well though.

    Im referring to Adriaan Fondse.
Gary van Aswegan seems to have been out of favour for a long time now.

  • @Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 15; So not good form at all, sounds like he needs to be brought back to earth, he is a Queenstown boy and we thought he would be our next Dick Muir. Funny how attitude can stuff everything up, but if you do not have attitude then there is a good chance you will never make it to the big leagues. The best example of attitude I ever came across was Michael (malles) du Plessis. He even took a game of touch rugby to the extreme, that is how competitive he was!! Pity that the talent is being wasted because of bad attitude, hope he wakes up and sees he is throwing his future away before it’s too late!!
