The Bulls have named their tour group to depart South Africa on Tuesday night for a four-match Super Rugby tour of the Antipodes. Young prop Morne Mellet is the only member of the tour party yet to be capped at Super Rugby level.
In a timely boost to the team, Bok fullback Zane Kirchner, who sat out Saturday’s win against the Lions due to a shoulder injury, was named fit to tour. Kirchner and Mellet are joined by Stephan Dippenaar and Akona Ndungane as the players outside of Saturday’s match 22 who will tour in the 16-man squad. Several players who picked up injuries against the Lions, including captain Victor Matfield and his lock partner Bakkies Botha, have been cleared of anything serious and will take their place on the long trip to New Zealand.
The Bulls start their tour against the struggling Hurricanes in Napier, before taking on the mighty Crusaders in Timaru the following week. They then head to Australia where they’ll face the Reds and Force before returning to Loftus to take on the Chiefs.
