The Sharks XV came away with a good five points against the Leopards on Saturday, and here are the individual ratings as I saw the game.

15. Kobus de Kock 6/10 – I thought that Kobus had a good game and kicked well, but was often caught out of position. He has a great running game, he just needs to get back into position

14. Mark Richards 8/10 – Scored two great tries and was very impressive on defence. His positional play to cover for de Kock at the back was good. Well played young man!

13. Jerome Pretorius 7/10 – Big guy with lots of speed, was in the action throughout the game, and his defence was great.

12. Riaan Swanepoel 7/10 – Whether Swannie has improved or whether he is just playing against a different class of opposition, but he is looking really good at the moment. He brings some experience to the backline.

11. Rosko Specman 9/10 – Rosko might be small, but he has a huge heart, and with that some huge pace. He popped up in support and scored two good tries. His defence is no laughing matter either!

10. Guy Cronje 7/10 – Guy had a solid game, but I felt that he could have done better, especially letting his backline go. If he had let the ball run, we could have scored a few more tries.

9. Cobus Reinach 8/10 – Cobus got his chance and took it with both hands. He gave Guy good quick ball, and was quick on attack. Good game!

8. Marcell Coetzee 9/10 – What can I say about Marcell that hasn’t been said before. He was all over the park, has vastly improved his tight game and yet still does the flashy as well as Kanko can. One for the future!

7. Jean Deysel (Captain) 9/10 – What a sight it was seeing the steamroller play again. Lead the team from the front, took up every ball he could and gained valuable meters. Will be good for him to play again this coming weekend.

6. Francois Kleinhans 7/10 – I must be honest, I did not see much of Francois, but that is most likely a good thing in that he was getting his job done and not standing in the wings.

5. Anton Bresler 7/10 – Anton was valuable in the lineouts, winning good clean ball from the set pieces, as well as adding some much needed experience to the team.

4. Jandre Marais 7/10 – Formed a good partnership with Anton and did his part at ruck and maul time, as well as being a legend in the lineouts.

3. Wiehahn Herbst 8/10 – One third of an amazing front row that never took a step back at scrum time. Was one of the first at every truck and got through a lot of work.

2. Kyle Cooper 9/10 – Kyle had a storming game, making more meters than the entire backline, and breaking the line at least three times. His tight game was superb and his throw ins were accurate as you like.

1. Dale Chadwick 8/10 – Dale played a great game, showing what some people have been seeing in him for a while. He gets through the hard yards and does the job. Well played!

Subs:

16. Craig Burden 7/10 – Got a few minutes to play and made his usual impact.

17. Sabelo Nhlapo 7/10 – This boy can play a bit and even though he is quite a big guy, gets around the park!

18. Daniel Adongo 7/10 – Dan came onto the park twice, first playing on the wing and then later in the loose. He looked a bit lost at the back, but got into it and had a good few runs. Back in the loose forward role he excelled and hit every ruck!

19. Lambert Groenewald 6/10 – Came on rather late and I didn’t see much of him to be honest.

20. Peet Marais 6/10 – Replaced Bresler to partner his brother and was solid.

21. Heimar Williams 7/10 – Heimar came on late in the second half, and looked solid on defence.

22. Gouws Prinsloo 7/10 – Played most of the second half and looked good.

  • Marcell Coetzee continues to impress. I hope the power that be a the Sharks have promised this lad heaven and earth to keep him at the Sharks. I recon he will become a great no 8….if he isn’t one already. He is only 19 but I see a great future ahead for him.

  • Cooper is something else. I don’t see how we are going to manage to keep both him and Burden happy under Bismark.

    Thanks for the grades Rich.

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 5) : Richard, I love your work. Good stuff. People have to appreciate how focused and objective not to mention gutsy any who posts rating has to be with all the critics about. I think you did a great job here above.

For the record I’m pretty sure Marcell finished off at Porties in 2009 so that makes it a year + a bit. Fred Zeilinga on the other was still at Glenwood last year.

  • @Big Fish (Comment 7) : I share your fears. I’ve been so caught up with Marcell’s good form lately that it hasn’t come thru what a big fan of Cooper I am as well. He was one of the best u21 players in the country last year. There are 4 other local S/R teams in which he’d be a few possies higher up than 4th on the depth charts.
