Welcome to the Windhoek Lager Team of the Week. We have decided to make it an all South African team and base it only on the weekend matches. So if your favourite player did not play on the weekend, he will not be in the team.
Thanks must go to Windhoek Lager for sponsoring this weekly Team. We will have a Team of the Year competition at the end of the season, so make sure to take note of certain players who consistently make the team.
Error, Ad (ID: 47) is expired or does not exist!1. John Smit – He had his best game in the loosehead position and gave Pat Cilliers a scrumming lesson
2. Ryno Barnes – Gave a solid performance and was stable at scrum time. And he found his lineout jumpers!
3. Werner Kruger – Solid scrumming performance from the big man.
4. Steven Sykes – Had a few good runs on the night and grew in the role of lineout caller through the game.
5. Andries Bekker – Is Andries derailing Matfield’s World Cup chances? He is a machine in the lineouts.
6. Keegan Daniel – With the hard graft being done by the forwards, Keegan was allowed to play his natural game!
7. Willem Alberts – His team mates call him the Bone-Collector and the name is so fitting. What a player!
8. Ryan Kankowski – Often criticised for being too flashy and not doing the work in the tight, Ryan came out and showed again that he get his hands dirty.
9. Sarel Pretorius – Most certainly the inform South African scrumhalf at the moment.
10. Jacques-Louis Potgieter – Apart from his goal kicking performance, Potgieter showed his natural running and counter attacking game.
11. JP Pietersen – Is hitting the form we have only seen glimpses of in the recent past. Great collect from the Potgieter cross kick, and fantastic finish from that position.
12. Juan de Jongh – Finally got some game time and proved that he is a world class centre just sitting on the bench waiting to explode onto the scene.
13. Stefan Terblanche – Stepped up on his big occasion and was all over the park. His positional play is amazing.
14. Philip Burger – Was one of the standout wings of the weekend.
15. Louis Ludik – He is making the fifteen jersey his own at the Sharks and is one of the better in the position at the moment.

Was great seeing JP Peterson running riot this weekend.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 1) : I agree….good to see the big man doing what he does best…one of my favorite players
The Bonecolector
I like that. It seem that whenever a team plays against the Sharks they start their week after with anouncing their injuries first and “The Bonecolector” has a lot to do with that…
Philip Burger?? He should be dropped JUST for being such an allround nice guy.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 4) :
He was good as far as I saw?!
JLP’s kicking for poles was dreadfull but other than tht he did kick well out of hand and did at least keep the defense honest with his runs. Sarel Pretorius needs a Bok cap badly! De Jong and Fourie the best centres in the country with Doppies a little bit behind, and JDV behind that! Bekker is so far ahead of Matfield its scary!
Yes!! Sharks players back in. My bias-o-meter is ticking over
De Jongh …pfffft
Would you like JDJ to play opposite SBW?
I whisper ;Murder murder murder
ST nope
Windhoek team of the week …sharks we the only ones that won! haha
@Talent (Comment 8) : NOTHING wrong with JDJ;s defence IMO and he runs some good lines.
@SheldonK (Comment 6) : Would rather have Ross Skeate at lock than Andries “pass me another schoolgirl, please” Bekker.
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 12) : pass me another schoolgirl, please
@KSA Shark © (Comment 13) :
What? You want one too?
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 14) : You’re only as old as the women you feel.
Ross Skeate?? Bwahahahahaha
C’mon Sharon, we’re talking about their performances on the field of play! Oh dear…
@wpw (Comment 16) : And if he was still a Stormer???????
I think atm this is a realistic look at the Springbok squad for the RWC
15 Steyn/ Kirschner
14 JP/Aplon/Mvovo
13 Fourie/JDJ
12 JDV/Butch
11 Habana (in form)/Hougaard
10 Steyn/Lambie/Grant
9 FDP/Ruan
8 Kankowski/Russouw/Spies
7 Smit/Alberts
6 Burger/ Brussouw
5 Victor/ Bekker
4 Bakkies/ Flip
3 Jannie/ CJ
2 Bismarck/Smit
1 Beast/Gurthro
@wpw (Comment 17) : Let’s face it. If you’re THAT dumb off the field, what does it say about your on-field performances?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 15) :
Or men.
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 21) : Lets just say you’re only as old as the opposite sex you feel.
I’m not THAT comfortable with my sexuality.
Another week another schocking selection by ‘windhoek’ by far the best bear on the market…but come on…this was de jonge’s worts performence to date…stef tereblanch? Better than Fourie even in a loosing team lat week? @:illip Burger, stinky was k@k…then that wilmar louw…as the form choice…and aplon was awesome at 15…
@BoerSeun (Comment 23) : I thought the Grizzly Bear was the best on the market?
@BoerSeun (Comment 23) : Aplon couldn’t even compete for the high ball… Not a 15 but a usefull 11 or 14.
@Ben (Comment 24) : I like my bear cold, so I go for the big white Polar Bear.
@King Shark (Comment 26) :
@KSA Shark © (Comment 18) :
Didnt Skeate come on as a sub?? I thought he had about 10 minutes game time!!
@wpw (Comment 17) : As opposed to the field they play…
http://www.sarugby.co.za/logs.aspx?categoryid=sarugby/super14&leagueid=795&fullview=true
No team scored more four try bonus points than the sharks.
I also thought that de Jongh was poor on the weekend.
Waratahs scored 15 tries more than they conceded, Crusaders 13 and Sharks 11. No other team in the double figures (Reds 8, Blues 4, Stormers 4, Chiefs 3).
8 teams have a negative ratio.
@King Shark (Comment 30) : Nice to see that something that was a weak point in the sharks camp has been turned arround. IMO the sharks are looking very good where they are now. We just need the stormers to keep losing a couple of games and same goes for the Crusaders so that they dont run away at the top.
@Salmonoid (Comment 31) : It seems like a pat on the back for getting some game time. Maybe even for inproved performance from doing nothing on the bench to doing little on the field.
@wpw (Comment 28) :
Shows how impressive he was in those few minutes.
@King Shark (Comment 32) : Waratahs stats are scewed by one or two performance like the game against the rebels. Same for the sharks game against the Crusaders. Other than the game againstthe crusaders the sharks has been doing well not to concede a lot of tries. Good defence and good attack.
Some more interesting stats:
Points difference leaders:
Crusaders 129
Reds 84
Waratahs 74
Stormers 63
Sharks 50
Blues 31
Chiefs 3
All other teams have negative points difference.
@Viking (Comment 36) : A strong correlation between points difference and try difference.
Scoring tries alone or defense alone is not enough to compete.
@King Shark (Comment 38) : Ofcourse there is a correlation between points diff and tries diff. But yeah, you need to have a good balance between offence and defence. Thats why the wheels are coming off at the stormers
@Viking (Comment 34) :
Its probably the lack of game time thats hampering him.
@Salmonoid (Comment 35) :
Enough for him to be included in the Team of the Week??
Madness.
@BoerSeun (Comment 23) :
Dude, you come on every week and say how kak the selections are..
Would you like to mail me YOUR choice then so that we can see how you go.. C’mon, I dare you!
@wpw (Comment 41) :
I would make him captain
We are pulling your leg here.
@King Shark (Comment 26) :
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 42) :
Richard, I dont think you should take it personally.
I promise you that when the Bok team is announced we all will have one or two or ten things to say about the selections. It will always be subjective and if we all agreed then the post would be only two pr three comments long and they would say “agreed”
“agree fully”
‘AGREE 100″
@Talent (Comment 9) :
Did you see the game in which Stef played?
@Salmonoid (Comment 45) : How about we do the Jorrie team? We pick the Crappy XV, lol!
@Salmonoid (Comment 45) :
I hear what you are saying.. And I agree, you have to have disagreement if you wanna run a successful blog.
BUT, this oke comes on, says the team is kak and leaves, leaving no reason. That gets to me..

@King Shark (Comment 49) :
7 – Kuun
11 – Habana
15 – Krusty
@King Shark (Comment 49) : I vote we start calling the crappy XV of the week. It is a lot of fun
@Salmonoid (Comment 45) : There are ways of disagreeing and there are ways of disagreeing.
one way is to indicate what you agree with as well as what you differ on and then offer some reasoning for those opinions.
then there is the way of coming in all guns blazing telling everyone how crap the selection is and that you are grumpy coz your favourite bear drank your favourite beer.
I know which way I would prefer.
@King Shark (Comment 51) :
Good point..
@KSA Shark © (Comment 54) :
Thanx KSA.. You got me laughing out loud with the bear/beer comment.. classic..
Im surprised I havent copped any flack for selecting John Smit at loosehead?!
@Viking (Comment 53) : What Bear would we get to sponsor that though? Would have to be a Crappy Bear.
My vote for crapest bear in SA goes to Yogi Bear.
@Salmonoid (Comment 43) :
I know YOU are…. thats why I didnt comment about De Jongh ‘being poor.’

@Richard Ferguson (Comment 57) : He did good.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 58) :
What about the Care-Bears?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 57 ) : Ah well that was just a crap selection. I think you suck at this.
@King Shark (Comment 60) : What about Devon Raubenheimer of the cheetahs? Spies didn;t play too bad on his standards.

OK, so who was the worst 9? Fourie du Preez or Dewald Duvenhage?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 66) : Please leave the match threads for the next 10 weeks on my desk before you leave.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 58) : We can call it the Luyt Lager Team of the Week ?
@Viking (Comment 65) : Spies and FdP couldn’t stop Dagg from 10m out….he definitely deserves to be there.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 70) :
I already have the intro paragraphs for the games this week, just waiting for the teams to be announced.
Would you like to mark my work?
@King Shark (Comment 69) : Curve Ball!!!!
Can we have the same flyhalf in the Crappy team as in the Bear team?
JLP had a good all round game, but one of his primary jobs is kicking at goal and he sucked at that. So to make sure he doesn’t think he can rest on his laurels for making the Windhoek team, we should include him as the Crappy 10 coz his kicking was so poor.
YES?

@Viking (Comment 71) :
@KSA Shark © (Comment 74) :
You are a genius!!
@KSA Shark © (Comment 74) : Good argument but Morne got a 0% accuracy on the day…
We still need to complete the tight five.
I feel strongly about the no 5 jersey. Who better to captain the Luyt Lager Crappy XV than Big Vic?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 73) : Were you a teachers pet at school?
I usually do them at 23:00 the night before the game. After which I do my FL team.
@Pokkel (Comment 72) : I would also like to get Duane Vermeulen in there for getting yellow carded for a punch. Maybe we will open a Idiot Team of the week as well.
@King Shark (Comment 75) : No Jantjies at 10? It is a close call though.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 80) :
Not particularly..
I had time and felt the inspiration..
@KSA Shark © (Comment 80) : Big Vic for 5 hands down
@King Shark (Comment 79) : This is proving to be more difficult than I thought. Who new?
George Earle at 4…..the oke played while dazed and confused for about half an hour.
@Pokkel (Comment 84) : Sweet! And no 4?
@King Shark (Comment 78) : That 0% figure may just give him the starting berth for the CXV, we can put JLP on the bench then.
I can’t remember any front rower that had howlers over the weekend…..so the default pick would have to be the Bull front row just because they lost so badly
@Pokkel (Comment 86) : And then he got a concussion! LOL!
@King Shark (Comment 75) :
3 – Pat Cilliers for allowing John Smit to get the upper hand on you.
@Pokkel (Comment 86) :
I was so surprised to see that guy come out after half time..
@Viking (Comment 91) : True
1 Dean Greyling
2 Deon Fourie
3 Pat Cilliers
4 George Earle
5 Victor come-on-ref Matfield
6 Deon Slegmann
7 Davon Raubenheimer
8 Pierre Spies
9 Fourie du Preez
10 Morne Steyn
11 Brian Habana
12 Wynand Timotei Olivier
13 Jaco Pretorius
14 Lionel Mercenary Mapoe
15 Zane Krusty Kirchner
@Pokkel (Comment 86) : Both George Earle and Josh Straus seemed to have had a run in with the Bone-Collector the weekend and got a concussion for the efforts
@Viking (Comment 81) :
You may be on to something there.
After every rugby game here we select a MOM and COM.
How about we get Rich to select a MOW (Man Of the Weekend) and COW for each Round?
This weekends COW goes to Duane”I finally tried to be a real enforcer” Vermeulen. IMO.
@King Shark (Comment 94) : Sounds about right although to be fair to Krusty…..he was probably one of the better Bulls on the day…
Taute and Kamana could also take the 15 spot …….Taute for letting JPP push him in the face like that and Kamana for becoming ANOTHER victim of the Bone-collector
@King Shark (Comment 94) : And the Luyt Lager Team of the week is…
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 92) : I think you should rather run with the Luyt Lager Crappy XV – far less contentious!
@King Shark (Comment 90) :
@KSA Shark © (Comment 96) : LOL
@Pokkel (Comment 97) : LOL! Krusty gets it on principle
@KSA Shark © (Comment 96) :
Good plan..
I will include in the next Team of the Week.
We can have a Player of the Week and the Bear of the Week.
@Viking (Comment 98) :
1 Dean Greyling
2 Deon Fourie
3 Pat Cilliers
4 George Earle
5 Victor come-on-ref Matfield
6 Deon Slegmann
7 Davon Raubenheimer
8 Pierre Spies
9 Fourie du Preez
10 Morne Steyn
11 Brian Habana
12 Wynand Timotei Olivier
13 Jaco Pretorius
14 Lionel Mercenary Mapoe
15 Zane Krusty Kirchner
@King Shark (Comment 102) : I could live with that
@King Shark (Comment 104) :
I accept.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 103) : That sounds like some great inclusions. This thread just got real exciting!
@Viking (Comment 106) : How about we open the Luyt Lager Crappy XV to our cousins from “darn unda” and open the competition right up…?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 103) :
Great Stuff.
And Bear is MUCH more politically correct than the word we use at local games.
Reserve bench:
16 Gary Botha
17 Wicus Blaauw
18 Flip van der Merwe
19 Duane Vermeulen
20 Dewald Duwenhage
21 Elton Jantjies
22 James Kamana
@King Shark (Comment 94) :
Just by the way, I will be assisting Rich with the Worst XV of the week… just to bring some objectivity to the selection process.
Not that Rich is biased of course!!
And is Ricky Januarie available for the Crappy XV based on his short stint off the bench on Saturday? Or should he be a Crappy bencher?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 103) : Or a Bear With A Sore Head thanks to the Bone-Collector of the Week?
@King Shark (Comment 109) : Hey isn’t there any space on the bench for JLP?
I would drop Kamana off the bench and play JLP who can cover 10, 12,13 and 14.
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 107) : Players mught actually start competing for positions then
@King Shark (Comment 109) :
Pity you didn’t come up with this idea when you were on your 3 match losing streak hey??
@KSA Shark © (Comment 113) : Your wish is my command!
Reserve bench:
16 Gary Botha
17 Wicus Blaauw
18 Flip van der Merwe
19 Duane Vermeulen
20 Dewald Duwenhage
21 Elton Jantjies
22 Jacques-Louis Potgieter
@KSA Shark © (Comment 113) : Come on. Kamana can’t be on the bench coz he’s got a bust ankle. Even in the Crappy XV there has to be some semblance of normality and we can’t use injured players on the bench! Brain-dead ones, yes, but injured… Not right!
I agree, stick JLP in there!
@King Shark (Comment 116) : Cool. Now that’s looking like a REALLY Crappy bench!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 111) :
Sharon
I was AT the game on Saturday. I sat behind the Stormers reserve players. Ricky came on with 11 minutes to go and he actually broke the line once… got to the rucks quicker than usual and his passing was accurate.
Now PLEASE explain to me how he deserves to be in the ‘Crappy Team’ based on that performance??
@KSA Shark © (Comment 113) : I think we may be a bit biased due to the fact that there is no Sharks in the Luyt Lager Crappy XV? I suppose our worst player of the week was JLP for his kicking performance…Maybe we should include him just to be fair?
@wpw (Comment 110) : Haha, so we might just see a shark selected!
@wpw (Comment 110) :
Thanx dude.. That will be greatly appreciated..
@wpw (Comment 115) : Depression and creativity aren’t best mates…
@Viking (Comment 114) : And why shouldn’t they? Let’s face it, there are some VERY on-form players in the Luyt Lager Crappy XV!
You can’t just buy (or should that be bye?) your way into this team!
After this comment I need 9 more to get my second star… The anticipation this side is great.
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 117) : True that.
But that does open a whole new can of worms.
Next week we’ll see Morne Steyn break his ankle after 79minutes, just to ensure he stays out of the CXV side.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 126) : Hahaha! Priceless! He already kicks like his ankle is broken!
@wpw (Comment 119) : C’mon, dude! I’m yanking your chain!
Looking forward to your objective input and a truly representative CXV selection process…
@Viking (Comment 120) :
Read my comment 74.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 126) : This could prove problematic to the Springbok selectors as well… The CXV could come in for some intense scrutiny!
@KSA Shark © (Comment 129) : So his playing lands him the Bear 15 while he kicked himself into the CXV as well. It will keep him on his toes…
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 128) : Objective? truly representative?
you clearly don’t know WPW very well.
Objectivity (like myself) is not on of his strong points.
@Viking (Comment 131) : Yip.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 132) :
@KSA Shark © (Comment 132) : Think my tongue was in my cheek when I said that!
Your Avatars are, um, interesting! Touch of S&M going on there, KSA?
So the final team for this week is:
1 Dean Greyling
2 Deon Fourie
3 Pat Cilliers
4 George Earle
5 Victor come-on-ref Matfield
6 Deon Slegmann
7 Davon Raubenheimer
8 Pierre Spies
9 Fourie du Preez
10 Morne Steyn
11 Brian Habana
12 Wynand Timotei Olivier
13 Jaco Pretorius
14 Lionel Mercenary Mapoe
15 Zane Krusty Kirchner
16 Gary Botha
17 Wicus Blaauw
18 Flip van der Merwe
19 Duane Vermeulen
20 Dewald Duwenhage
21 Elton Jantjies
22 Jacques-Louis Potgieter
@wpw (Comment 119) : Goeie genade maar jy is darem blerrie sensitief deesdae
@Pokkel (Comment 137) : Moenie Wesley se WP aanvat nie!
@King Shark (Comment 125) : Final Five. Iemand se tog iets laat ek kan tjol praat!
@King Shark (Comment 136) : Looks GOOOOOD to me! Who’s captain?
@King Shark (Comment 136) : Davon played 8 the weekedn although the team sheets ahead of the game said 7. So not fair on him to be selected at 7. BUT, it opens it up again to include Kuun at seven who did play at 7 from the bench. Oh, he also did get more than enough game time to warrant his inclusion.
@King Shark (Comment 139) : Praat met jouself….ten minste het jy dan goeie geselskap
Well the Luyt Lager Crappy XV’s captain must be annoying so that the ref will keep screwing them over, so it has to be Big Vic!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 140) : Crappy Capy must go to Vic for not being able to inspire his team to score a point.
@Pokkel (Comment 142) : Mense. Waar’s ons nou? Loftus Versveld? Hou kom praat ons die boeretaal? Ek is ‘n ou rooinek meisie en my Afrikaans is nie so goed nie. Ek kan nie jou mooi verstaan!
@Pokkel (Comment 142) : Stem saam daar!
Yeah I suppose but do you really want to see a team that will feature Kuun and Slegmann simultaneously? I mean, the annoyance level might turn lethal
@King Shark (Comment 143) : @Viking (Comment 144) : I’m happy with Crappy Capy Vic. Seals the deal for me, that does!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 145) : Ag sorry Soutie!
Is everybody ready for the transformation?
@King Shark (Comment 146) : Add to that an annoying Crappy Capy and the annoyance factor would definitely be ramped up to critical overload. We’d have internecine warfare on our hands!
@King Shark (Comment 149) : Ready and waiting…..
This should be U21
@King Shark (Comment 149) : Gaan vir goud!!!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 150) : I’ll stop the Afrikaans if you stop using words like ‘internecine’
What does it mean anyway?
@King Shark (Comment 152) : Congrats on the upgrade 2 Star King Shark
@King Shark (Comment 152) : Welcome to the club! It’s a long way to go to the Currie Cup, so make the most of it!
@Pokkel (Comment 154) : Sounds fair to me…
@Pokkel (Comment 154) : Damaging to both sides of a conflict.
Therefore completely pointless!
@wpw (Comment 115) : Bwaaahaaahaaa!
@Pokkel (Comment 154) : OK. Deal. Mar ek is nie ‘n soutie nie, ek het nie ‘n piel nie!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 160) : Nah you can continue to use the BIG english words……maybe this dutchman can learn a couple of things.
OK, now that I have achieved what I set out to, I’ll go and attend to our anniversary arrangements. 4 years today…
Later!
Sharks team has been released.
@Pokkel (Comment 161) :
@Pokkel (Comment 137) :
@Big Fish (Comment 159) :
I’m on a lone crusade here boet… and no it doesn’t involve food!!
@Pokkel (Comment 154) :
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 163) : Gee that IS early.
@King Shark (Comment 162) :
Congratulations
Enjoy
Get Lucky
Not in any specific order.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 168) : Late April Fools joke
@Jarson (AddicteD) (Comment 170) :
@wpw (Comment 166) :
Hey I was serious about de Jongh. He needs to start more to stay sharp. Sharks can help in this regard.
@Salmonoid (Comment 172) :
I agree he wasn’t that great on attack but defensively he did well.
He won’t join the Sharks.
You guys have Bosman, Adi, Marius Joubert and Stef. Where does he fit in??
@wpw (Comment 173) : Right at the top!!!
@wpw (Comment 173) :
He should go to the Cheetahs..
Or even the Bulls, they have kak centres..
@wpw (Comment 173) :
I rate de Jongh THAT highly!
@wpw (Comment 173) :
Im sure we could find a place for him.
Bulls would be the best option, I think he would do damn well there…..if he ever got the ball that is.
@Salmonoid (Comment 177) : With Wynand and Steyn on his inside. Like hell he will get the ball. But sure, the bulls will sell their souls for a proper centre at this stage.
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 135) :
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 160) :
@Pokkel (Comment 174) : @Salmonoid (Comment 177) : @Richard Ferguson (Comment 175) :
The only problem I have with De Jongh is that he is often predictable on attack.
You know the inside step he does almost everytime he gets the ball.
@wpw (Comment 180) :
A lot of our centre’s have that problem..
I think he is relaint on a creative flyhalf to put him in space, which we have a clear shortage of in South African.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 126) : I See Habana has read the site and got injured and won’t be playing this weekend.
