DHL Stormers team announced

Allister Coetzee has named his side to take on the Lions at Coke Park (is it still called that??) in what is an important game for the men from Cape Town after having lost to the Reds last week.

Jean de Villiers has failed to recover from the groin injury which kept him out last week. Bryan Habana has also been sidelined due to an injury he picked up against the Reds. His place will be taken by Gio Aplon while Conrad Jantjes returns to the fullback position.

Another blow for the Stormers is the injury to young Rynhardt Elstadt who has been in fine form since the start of the season. De Kock Steenkamp wears the number 4 jersey in his place while CJ van der Linde swops places with Brok Harris who moves to the bench.

Stormers team:

15 Conrad Jantjes, 14 Danie Poolman, 13 Jaque Fourie, 12 Juan de Jongh, 11 Gio Aplon, 10 Peter Grant, 9 Dewaldt Duvenage, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Francois Louw, 6 Schalk Burger (c), 5 Andries Bekker, 4 De Kock Steenkamp, 3 CJ van der Linde, 2 Deon Fourie, 1 Wicus Blaauw.

Replacements: 16 Ethienne Reynecke, 17 Brok Harris, 18 Anton van Zyl, 19 Nick Koster, 20 Ricky Januarie, 21 Gary van Aswegen, 22 Johann Sadie.

  • Elstadt is a big loss!

Should still be too strong for the Lion-cubs..

Yeah. I’m glad to see Connie back at fullback. Now Aplon can attack more having moved to the wing.

I can’t see the Lions winning this one BUT I’m not gonna be windgat cos it might come back to bite me in the ass!!

  • I cannot see the Lions getting past the Stormers. They have a list of injuries from JHB to the cape so Stormers should really be getting 5 points from this game.

Tbh, I thought he had a very good game against the Reds. yes he made a few mistakes but he also did well on defense and didn’t stop trying.

I think the way he has been treated of late is just downright pathetic considering what he has done for SA rugby in the past.

People should hang their heads in shame!!

  • Ever since that eye coach got fired by PDV, Habana has been going downhill. Also since she left JDV is no more called Mr intercept. Biggest mistake ever to let the only person who won two rwc medals in a row. She now coaches Ireland and I won’t be surprised if Ireland come through to the quarters or semi-finals

Alberts does not seem to tire, but I have to believe that he can not go on the way he has been. The only rest without injury has been amongst the props, I really think Plum has lost the plot here.

  • @Dancing Bear (Comment 37) : I think rotation in the backs isn’t crucial but rotating the fowards is a must.I hope we see Smitty at 2 against the Hurricanes and maybe Hoffman at 9 if he has a good run this weekend. I think Plum will play Deysel from the bench so Alberts will have to put in one last solid performance.

Matfield will still take all the LO ball we need when he has Smit throwing at him, If Matfield is captain then I will become “obsessed” with him.

Du preez is not his best at the moment but he is one of the best in SA at the moment.

Spies I’m hoping doesn’t make the squad once Deysel and Alberts have been playing for a few weeks.

And for the record I’m not obsessed with Habana. I just want to get him out of the Bok squad. Aplon is MUCH better on the wing.

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 46) : I understand you want him out of the Bok squad (not going to happen by the way), but why all the effort on Habana and none on Spies. I am more upset about Spies being on the Bok squad. If du Preez playing like he is right now is still one of the best SA have to offer, then we have serious problems at 9 for the RWC, Habana should be the least of your worries.

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 46) : The problem is that PdV will play Matfield at captain and drop Smit. Then Bissie will miss all the lineout throws, not to mention being completely knackered because Plum refused to rest him and give Smit some playing time at 2.

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 49) : I am not sure who has been defending Habana’s form at the moment on SW, I can’t say I have seen anything from anybody claiming he is on form. There are a few that say that form is temporary, class permanent, but even they won’t say he is in form right now. In fact, I don’t think anybody would say that Habana has been in form since the 2007 season. Anyway, Matfield and Spies will hurt the Boks more if they are not in form than Habana would, in my opinion.

  • @Danman110 (Comment 51) : Sorry can’t agree, right now Odders is a better wing than either Habana or Mvovo. In my opinion, he is playing better than Aplon, and is a better defender. One has to look at him before Mvovo and Habana, in my opinion. Also, remember, Odders is keeping another Bok (Mvovo) out of the Sharks starting line up because he is playing much better rugby now, and works much harder than Mvovs.

  • @Dancing Bear (Comment 53) : as mentioned earlier ever Since we fired Dr Sheryll Calder, the springboks backs look a bit less imposing. Habana seems to have lost his hand eye coordination. Both he and JDV stopped attempting intercets and our general ball play is much less confident. One can’t understand how we sacked the only person who won two medals in a row.

Now I’m not blaming her sacking on Habana’s form alone, but it did bring out the best in him. Even to Victor Matfield to a degree with his LO steals.

He has that “professional players syndrome” of if my union doesn’t do it for mke then it’s not getting done.

So Sheryll Calder isn’t with the boks anymore and neither is Henning Gericke (mind coach). Is ANYTHING stopping Habana to spend some of his hard earned cash from his own pocket and enroll with either or both of those on his own?
