The Reds, fresh off a very successful tour of South Africa, face more South African opposition in the form of a bewildered Bulls team that took a bit of a beating at the hands of the Crusaders last weekend.
The Reds, back on home turf after a long flight, will be full of confidence going into this game. The long flight might take its toll towards the end of the match, but I think they will be too good a Bulls team that will be ready to come home to their beloved Loftus now.
I predict a win for the Reds.

I still maintain that Basson is not a viable Bok option because his that defence is poor and he is anonymous when not GIVEN space – a weakness that is magnified in van den Heever.

Just another good reason why you need to watch how players perform when they don’t have the ball. Rod Davies was switched off and therefore pathetic at the kickoff which resulted in Basson’s try. He needed to cover the line and jump. He’s great with the ball in hand, even better when there’s a bit of space but that was terrible D.

@Big Fish (Comment 14) : You’re obviously referring to his tackling. He does however cover the back pretty well and is fairly sound under the high ball.
He is a lightweight in a sport dominated by heavyweights. If he doesn’t go low, in most contests he just doesn’t have the upperbody strength to stop an opponent.

That was schoolboy stuff. Good poaching by Basson, but such a fundamental execution error is unusual in Aussie rugby – sadly all too common in SA rugby.
@Big Fish (Comment 19) : The kickoffs have become a very interesting aspect of play this season. The contests are really good. In past seasons, you were regarded as a sloppy team if you didn’t win the ball but now it seen in a positive light – good attacking play by the team kicking the ball if they turn it over.

Great under the high ball and good positioning too – work on his pop-gun kicking, and would make a decent fullback.
Lacks the strength to pose a danger in tight games, and as shown now, is not an aggresive or “positive” tackler.

Bulls built a legacy arround a few players . There are huge gaps in their team . Their loose forwards are pathetic ,absolutely pathetic, midfield is extremely poor -Wynand has the imagination of a teaspoon on attack and is dislexic on defence.
15 is awful ,morne steyn is playing sub standard .
Why they dont start with Rossouw is beyond me ,F Ludeke not the coach his team has made him out to be in the past.
Matfield was poor at line outs and bakkies is a shadow of his former self. Problems …big problems -worst of all is their redundant game plan that is as easy to read as a chinese fortune cookie ,has about the same depth
