S15 Game 65 – Force (26) vs Bulls (21) F/T

The South Africans are finally involved, even though we had to wait until game four of the weekend! The Bulls finish their tour against probably the worst of the Australian teams in the Super Rugby this season, and after their horrific tour, the Bulls will want to just get on the plane and come home.

The Force, who have very little to fight for after being overtaken by the new Rebels team so early in their career, must have a big blow to the Sydney based team. The Force are at home though, and will take confidence from the poor Bulls performances over the last few weekends.

This should be a scrappy affair, but I rate the home team might just surprise us and pull off a win.

Force: TBC

Bulls: 15. Zane Kirchner, 14. Bjorn Basson, 13. Stephan Dippenaar, 12. Wynand Olivier, 11. Francois Hougaard, 10. Morné Steyn, 9. Fourie du Preez, 8. Pierre Spies, 7. Dewald Potgieter, 6. Deon Stegmann, 5. Victor Matfield (Captain), 4. Bakkies Botha, 3. Werner Kruger, 2. Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1. Dean Greyling

Replacements: 16. Gary Botha, 17. Rossouw De Klerk, 18. Flip van der Merwe, 19. Danie Rossouw, 20. Derick Kuun, 21. Francois Brummer, 22. Jaco van der Westhuyzen

The Ozzie commentators cant believe it was even a penalty. Reckoned he landed on his back so its legal.

    I’m not too sure.

I don’t think it matters if he was placed on his back: he was lifted past the horizontal – ass-over-head – that’s only legal in the bedroom.

  • @Big Fish (Comment 20) : @Ben (Comment 17) :

    Thats why I’m unsure.

The two points are landing on your head/shoulders versus your back and taking the player through the horizontal.

Now the questions is do the laws require both to be satisfied or only one?
Is is landing on your head/shoulder AND taking the player through the horizontal.

Or is it: landing on your head/shoulder OR taking the player through the horizontal

  • The amended Law 10.4 (j) will now read:
Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player’s feet are still off the ground such that the player’s head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play.

Kirchner tipped through more than 90 and was not brought to ground safely and you can see O’Connor twisting as he tips Kirchner.

  • Council Amends Spear Tackle Law

The IRB Council has reinforced its zero-tolerance stance towards all dangerous tackles by approving an amendment to the Law relating to the spear tackle.

An amendment to Law 10.4(j) has been approved to recognise the defensive actions of the tackled player when the arms are outstretched to break a fall and to further ensure the consistency of application of the appropriate sanction for offending players.

The amended Law 10.4(j) will now read: Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player’s feet are still off the ground such that the player’s head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play.

The amended Law will operate globally from December 1, 2010.

  • @Big Fish (Comment 92) : WC 7/8 should be contested for between Kanko/Alberts/Smith/Rossouw
Depending on who we play ; Burger Smith Alberts ,Brussouw Alberts Kanko, Brussouw Rossouw Kanko -balance needs to be played with

    Tight 5 is fine
