S15 Game 72 – Force (30) vs Crusaders (42) F/T

The early afternoon match sees Force hosts the Crusaders in Perth. One would have to expect the Crusaders to hit back with immense accuracy and make up the points they lost last weekend when they succumbed to the Highlanders.

The Force have a near full strength team after the return of David Pocock to the side of the scrum. James O’Connor, the topic of a lot of media speculation in recent weeks, fills in at inside centre with Willie Ripia inside him.

The Crusaders have Richie McCaw back in jersey eight with Kieran Read taking a break, and also have Sonny Bill Wiliams back in the centre’s teaming up with Robbie Fruean.

I suspect the Force will feel the backlash from the Highlanders defeat and the Crusaders should have this match won by half time.

Force: 15. Cameron Shepherd, 14. Nick Cummins, 13. Pat Dellit, 12. James O`Connor, 11. David Smith, 10. Willie Ripia, 9. Brett Sheehan, 8. Ben McCalman, 7. David Pocock, 6. Richard Brown, 5. Nathan Sharpe (Captain), 4. Sam Wykes, 3. Matt Dunning, 2. Nathan Charles, 1. Pekahou Cowan

Replacements: 16. Ben Whittaker, 17. Kieran Longbottom, 18. Matthew Hodgson, 19. Tevita Metuisela, 20. James Stannard, 21. Rory Sidey, 22. Alifeleti (Alfi) Mafi

Crusaders: 15. Israel Dagg, 14. Sean Maitland, 13. Robert Fruean, 12. Sonny Bill Williams, 11. Zac Guildford, 10. Matthew Berquist, 9. Kahn Fotuali`i, 8. Richie McCaw, 7. Matt Todd, 6. George Whitelock, 5. Chris Jack, 4. Luke Romano, 3. Ben Franks, 2. Corey Flynn, 1. Wyatt Crockett

Replacements: 16. Quentin MacDonald, 17. Owen Franks, 18. Joe Wheeler / Reuben Thorne, 19. Jonathan Poff, 20. Willi Heinz, 21. Tom Marshall, 22. Adam Whitelock

You DON’T penalise McCaw for diving into the ruck – everyone knows that he has special dispensation for that.

  • What rubbish!

Ref allows a rubbish scrum, and then TWO instances where the tackled player isn’t held but doesn’t release the ball before getting up again – which he penalised the Force for.

    Consistency!

I agree with PDV – let’s see if the boxer can box, if the dancer can dance, against the Bok centres.

With your loosies and Grant, JDV and Fourie in midfield, SBW will have to show that he is more than just flash – let’s see how well he takes a big hit, and if his weak defence can improve.

Did you see that Lomu said he wants to box Sonny-boy in that charity fight?

Among those lined up to fight are former Kiwis Joe Vagana, Awen Guttenbeil and Monty Betham, dual-code Australian international Wendell Sailor and even French rugby legend Sebastien Chabal.

Fact of the matter is that it doesn’t take genius to befuddle a central channel comprising JLP and Oupa. Eager to see a real battle.
