In what should produce a fantastic curtain raiser to the Stormers/Sharks match up later this evening, we have the small matter of a Vodacom Cup quarter final to settle, where an unbeaten Western Province take on a Sharks XV, both teams lined with fringe players hoping to make enough of an impact to prove their inclusion in the Super squad.
The Province team, captained by JD Moller, have a team that have one of the most experienced lock combinations with Fondse and van Zyl, both having played the entire Currie Cup last year, backed by a rather young looking loose trio. Their backline is nothing to look down on either with the Varsity Cup winning boot of Demetri Catrikilis at flyhalf leading a backline filed with stars.
The Sharks XV have their own big names, starting with an impressive front row that should not take a step backwards all day, backed by an equally impressive lock combination, where Gerhard Mostert will e proving to his coaches that he should be in the senior side. The loose trio of the Sharks is far better than its opposing trio, with Marcell Coetzee one of the brighter stars around at the moment.
The backline has a lively look to it with Reinach taking the scrumhalf jersey and feeding Potgieter, who is far more experienced than his opposite number, and in a loose game will dominate his opposite number. Captain Riaan Swanepoel has been in impressive form for the team and will hope to lead his team to victory against their coastal rivals.
