Along with the World Cup being just around the corner there is also the end of the reign of P Divvy, I’ve spent a bit of time thinking about my dream head coach and wanted to bring the discussion on here.

To get the ball rolling, here are my choices, one of the following coaches will be unemployed post world cup: Robbie Deans or Graham Henry as head coach. Forwards coach would be Gert Smal, backline coach: Eddie Jones. Obviously this is all after 1st choices of Allister Coetzee, Matthew Proudfoot and Robbie Fleck ;-)

What are yours?

  • Look, Allister Coetzee has proven to be the best, but I like debate.

  • Coetzee has the experience and has shown what he is capable of.

But what if PDV wins the WC?

  • No definately ac!
HM got a team with huge names in it to a final and since then what has he done? A stint in europe -did his team make any semis of finals? didnt he quit half way?

Ac ,it has to be. Please HM pff ,then we will be stuck playing the same rugby the bulls play now ,the bulls boys are a stubborn bunch ,change doesnt happen over night so much as over decades with them.

  • OK. I’ve taken a more measured look at this thread now. And I want to ask what happens to all of these museful selections if/when (choose which depending on your individual alliances) the Stormers come undone and lose their SupeRugby campaign?

Think I’ll save a couple of these for payback, just in case!

  • If we’re going Nic Mallet, then I say let’s haul Andre Markgraaff out of bed as well. And while we’re at it, let’s get Jakey back from the Brumbies. Ian Mac, Rudolf Straeuli, Harry Viljoen and Carel du Plessis also deserve a second shot, if Mallet is up there!

  • Slightly off topic but news from Aus is that Dingo Deans has extended his contract to 2013 which probably mean Blackadder will be All Blacks coach post-RWC.

  • Mallett won’t get the job and I personally don’t want him involved with the Boks.
He hasn’t coached a top level side in many years and is too opinionated for my liking.
We don’t want another arrogant coach like Jake or Stoolie.

  • Sharon, I used foreigners in my pick, so happy with that.

Would love Graham Henry to have a bash, but doubt him or SARU would go that route.

They’re mos klaar doing the job, might as well just rubber stamp it after we take the cup from under those dirty, cheating kiwis’ noses later this year.  ;-)

  • Alister will be head couch, politics will always play a roll in SARU..rassie might be up for assistant (director of rugby) and a foreign flavor might be involved…maybe Woodword, Henry, Mitchell and about 80% sure Gert Smal is just waiting for his call up…may even see John Smit as forwards couch in a year or 2…and why not, a fantastic leader, team mate, tactician full of experience and very loyal to the success of the Team…will be a awesome Assistant Couch…

  • alistar has done good things with the stormers but they are still yet to win anything and when he was the backline coach of the boks they were very average, so i dont think theres any obvious candidate but would love deans dont think he’d come to sa tho

  • @BoerSeun (Comment 35) : Yip, think John would make a very good coach with Matfield as well.

For next year would loved it if we got Deans. Somehow doubt that.

Should be A. Coetzee. He should have got the job well ahead of PdV. Think it will be Coetzee.
